Meet in GameReplays & RelicOnline, Get Married!

By AmiPolizeiFunk - 28th July 2011 - 00:37 AM

This has got to be one of the most remarkable stories ever to grace the front page of GameReplays.org! Two gamers, who had seen each other's names in these very forums, started playing some online 2v2 games of Company of Heroes together. Many years later, after countless of hours in Ventrilo and countless virtual engagements on the battlefield, it led to a very real engagement in the real world. EnglishMuffin and Greatness are now married! And that's not all we have to congratulate them about. Read on, as Greatness tells this incredible story in her own words:

QUOTE("Greatness July 28 2011")

Where to start……well it was about 5 years ago, I was in gr chat on COH as usual and all of a sudden I got a whisper saying “are you any good?” I said “Are you?”. He told me he saw my name on GR with some replays and such and wanted to see if we’d make a good team, so I obliged. I remember thinking ‘who is this EnglishMuffin person ffs’ and we played a few games together.

What started out as a COH buddy turned into my best friend. Soon we started playing other things while not on COH, scrabble, SOASE, TF2, COD, chess, you name it. For the next 4 years we spent nearly every day together, and if we weren’t on vent we were talking on the phone or sending stupid emails to each other just joking around.

I guess things started to change for me when we had a huge argument. It was stupid really, miscommunication on a time when we’d play COH that day. It just escalated into us not talking to each other for a week. Each day I would just sit there and look at the COH chat to see if he’d log in and he didn’t. I was so lonely that my best friend wasn’t talking to me. I would like to give a shout out to Hellfox (many of you may know him from his shout casts here on GR) for mediating us and helping us get back together. The little fight made me realize that life just wasn’t the same without my battle buddy.

One night I was drunk beyond belief and apparently I started to say what was on my mind. I wouldn’t remember if it hadn’t been for him saving the chat log. The next morning I felt different, not really knowing what to expect but feeling good about it. I went to vent to see if he was on and he was, he told me he loved me and that was all it took for me. I moved out of my current boyfriends house and went to live with my mom in NC, that was the easy part. How would he be with me when he lived in CA?

Well, I had no car, no license, no job. I really had to restart my life from scratch and that took the better part of a year. When I finally got my apartment, we decided that July 2010 would be a good time to meet. So he bought a plane ticket and flew out on the 1st of July. I remember seeing him walk down the terminal and I was ear to ear, so excited to finally meet my best friend. We hugged and laughed, we walked through the roses at the botanical garden. Up until that point it was the most important moment in my life.

He went back to CA to finish culinary school but moved to NC with me in August of 2010. He shipped his car and all of his stuff over, he left his life to be with me. If he were writing this Im sure he would say “it was an easy choice”, but I know it must have been difficult to leave his family and friends.

In September he made me a really nice dinner, got down on one knee and proposed. I said yes. November rolled around and I found out I was pregnant. Our son was born on July 19th 2011, we were married on July 25th 2011. When I type this out it seems like everything happened so fast but I feel like we are where we are supposed to be. I wouldn’t change a thing.

One thing I forgot to mention. When I went to Vegas in 2009 we were supposed to meet and hang out but never got the chance because I had to fly back due to an emergency. I think of how things may be different if we had met then instead of being in love first.

And now a little walk down lover's lane. Here's a replay from the current patch:

38 wubs as we go to press, not bad:

The oldest replay we could find of them together, Apr 23 2008:

Not love at first sight, love before first sight. Just think, it could happen to you!
