King of the Hill Pre-Finals Summary

By Forlong - 2nd November 2008 - 01:29 AM

The finals in the Kane's Wrath King of the Hill tournament have already begun earlier today. The finals are now pitting the tournament's four previous kings, Khufu, Unleashed, EyEamZero, and Crunk, against each other to see who will come out on top as the true King of the Hill, or perhaps more accurately, of the Tiber River Valley. Earlier today, Crunk faced off against Unleashed to see who would advance through the semifinal round, and soon Khufu will play against EyEamZero. The winners of these two separate bouts will face each other in an action-packed best-of-three series to end the tournament with a bang!

Each of these kings has met with varying degrees of success during his respective reign. Khufu played on for five games undefeated, and might well have been able to continue for much longer. However, as he is participating in the World Cyber Games Grand Finals, he didn't want to continue publishing his replays publicly and essentially forfeited his game against Unleashed, the only game of the tournament played on the map Tournament Desert Redux. However, he has decided to return to the finals as he feels that if he does not play as Nod, which he intends to use at WCG, then his WCG opponents will not be able to study his strategies in advance.

Unleashed's first opponent was located on the west coast of America, a huge time zone difference from Unleashed's own home in Ukraine. As Unleashed was also sick at the time, he was unable to arrange his game in time and was thus disqualified from the tournament after just one game against Khufu. Though he has a very short reign, he has posted several extremely popular replays lately and is certainly going to be a contender in the finals. The next King was EyEamZero, who also commentated two of the KotH matches, including one of his own. After impressively defeating two difficult opponents, he lost in game nine to Crunk. Crunk has been the king ever since, amazingly prevailing over nine separate opponents. Crunk's string of victories has been marked by his ability to develop an extremely strong economy; he has often collected over twice as many resources as his opponents in his games.

However, past performance in the tournament is no longer relevant. Crunk, with his nine victories, comes into the finals with no advantage at all over his opponent, Unleashed, with just one victory, and only their one game determined which player made it to the final series:
