Tip of the Week #110 - Ox Transport WayPoint Mode

By alexcnc89 - 22nd August 2012 - 08:07 AM

Greetings, Commanders!

Today's tip of the week is focusing on one of the most underused unit abilities in Kanes' Wrath, the Call for Transport. Although it has been previously discussed, the usage of Call for Transport will prove to be more effective when combined with waypoint mode. It is particularly encouraging in the world of KW to exchange a mere 200 credit for an instant Ox Transport dropped down from the sky.

Waypoint mode is activated when Alt key is on hold. The player is allowed to predetermine the path/action a unit should take before the Alt key is released. With careful execution, the unit will do exactly what the player wants, while he may divert his attention on other major stuff (e.g. main force control).

So, how does it help in game? We're going to use one prominent example, the engineer.

To start a sneaky capture mission, hotkey (ctrl+1) a ready engineer and activate Call for Transport ability. An Ox Transport (GDI factions) or Nod Transport (could Kane at least name this baby for the least?) will be called for service. While the transport is landing, select the transport and quickly assign another hotkey to it (ctrl+2). With transport still selected, hold Alt key and plan the route of Ox Transport. Yes, it is possible for the transport to obey the commands even though it is still landing for the engineer. Once the Alt key is released, the transport will travel according to the designated route (e.g. spike, construction yard, EMP control center).

This method is applicable to other unit, subject to your gameplay style. I am yet to see players lifted 5 predator tanks behind the enemy's base =)

Hope it helps, Commanders.
