Shock Troopers

At $800 for a pack of 3 Shock Troopers, $266 is quite a bargain for each member. However, with the cheap price comes a poor unit to start with. Upgrades are required to make decent use of them. Shock Troopers are a lot like the Enlightened in the fact that they do poor damage when not upgraded with Discs yet do significantly more when upgraded. Shock Troopers are also like Zone Troopers/Raiders in the fact that they can quickly get from one location to another. Shocks do the job of getting to one place much better than Zones do thanks to their teleport which gives them almost instant teleportation from one location to another. Shock troopers are available to all Scrin factions. Traveler-59’s Shock Troopers however benefit the most since one of their 3 upgrades is free and already upgraded. Not only that, they are the only ones that can get Advanced Articulators. This speed upgrade doubles the speed of the Shock Trooper making it one of the fastest infantry units in the game alongside the Ravager. The other two upgrades are available to all factions: Discs and Blink Packs. Reaper-17’s Shocks benefit a little more than Scrin’s because at Tier 4, Reaper is able to deploy a pod of veteran Shock Troopers onto the field. A well placed pod can lay waste to enemy artillery as they try to scramble to safety under the unforgiving damage of Disc upgraded Shock Troopers.

Shock Troopers take down Harvesters very quickly especially when all teleported within range.

Tactics:
Shock Troopers are fairly decent harassment units thanks to their teleportation ability and high damage output during long intervals. Their disc segments travel significantly faster than rockets and therefore prevent more overkill in comparison to rockets. Shock Troopers are currently effective vs. many types of units such as tanks, infantry, and air. Although they are most effective vs. air, you will most likely be using them to counter tanks since they cannot be crushed by simple means. On top of that, shock troopers can much more effectively use directional armour weaknesses of tanks than Zone Troopers/Raiders because they can reach the location significantly faster. The downside of Shock Troopers is that they have nothing to garrison inside of within their own faction. In order to garrison Shock Troopers, either an ally or your own attained vehicle from GDI and its subfactions or Nod and its subfactions will have to be used to garrison them. Shock Troopers can be garrisoned inside APCs, Reckoners, and Hammerheads.
The most effective use of Shock Troopers comes from Traveler-59. Probably the most important upgrade in Traveler’s arsenal is the Advanced Articulators upgrade for $1000. It grants double the speed for all affected units making their effectiveness significantly better. Speed upgraded Shocks are extremely deadly in harassment since their speed is essentially buffed to around the speed of a stealth tank. Coupled with teleportation, speed + disc upgraded shock troopers can be the most elusive and powerful all around unit for the cost making an unsuspecting opponent wish they had their mommy next to them.
Harvesters are often the #1 priority for shock troopers followed by tier 2 tech structures such as the Secret Shrine, Radar Dome, Nerve Center, Armory, etc. These buildings have generally low amounts of health and are vital to an enemy’s Tier 3. If they can be taken out, before the Tech Center is built, it can severely slow down the opponent’s tech level. Barracks are often a quick fix to countering shocks because infantry are particularly most effective vs. Shocks. Barracks have very little health and therefore are great targets for destruction. Power Plants are also a big target for Shock Troopers in general. Power plants are vital to a base’s function from the time it takes to make a building to the time it takes to make a unit to the inability to continue upgrading, to the loss of the radar which can be very detrimental to anyone’s upkeep of everything in general.

Ravagers

The Ravager is by far the most interesting unit in the game. It costs $400 per Ravager and $1200 for a whole squad. It is surprisingly most effective not vs. GDI or Nod but vs. Reaper 17. The Ravager’s secondary ability is what makes it so potent. Tiberium Agitation (TA) causes significant amounts of damage to units and buildings targeted by the ability. The ability has a significantly larger attack range than the Ravager’s attack making it all the better at harassment. A stock Ravager already is the fastest infantry unit in the game. Advanced Articulators makes it even faster easily topping the speed of the bike. Tiberium Agitation does 1000 damage per Ravager using the ability. This means that a squad of 3 ravagers will do 3000 damage every time they use the Tiberium Agitation.

Ravagers are excellent at taking down Refineries using Tiberium Agitation.

The following is a list of the units and structures TA can be used on and how many TA are required from a full squad of Ravagers to destroy the unit:
  • All Harvesters – 2 rounds
  • Refineries – 4 rounds, 7 if fenced
  • Tiberium silos – 1 round
  • Tiberium chemical plant – 1 round, 2 if fenced
  • Corrupters – 1 round
  • Reaper-17 Devourer tanks - 1 round almost destroys the devourer tank
  • Reaper Tripods – 3 rounds, 4 if shielded
  • Mechapedes – 1 round (must aim at the head)
The Ravager is most effective at using TA when it has the speed upgrade (only available to Traveler-59) since it will be better able to reach the target with fewer casualties. As you can see from these figures, the Ravager is very powerful against a lot of Reaper-17’s arsenal and very effective vs. Harvesters. Additionally, Reaper-17’s Ravager has access to blue shards which greatly increase its attack power. The Ravager is most potent at killing Heavy Infantry such as Zone Troopers, Enlightened and Shock Troopers, and also very effective vs infantry that have low squad member counts such as Awakened and Rocket Squads. The Ravager does decent damage vs. vehicles although dedicated anti-tank units like Shock Troopers are a better way to go.
