The Final Worldbuilder Challenge Results

Dear commanders, conquerors and mappers,

Over a month ago, we kicked off the Worldbuilder Challenge. In this challenge, anyone could sign up and give tournament worldbuilding a go. Each contestant had to produce a tournament map based on a location where they would send their enemies to. Many mappers had signed up, but the road to the top proved harsh and exhausting. At the end of the road, we saw three mappers still standing. They were AggressivePanda, Hydrolase and Stayer231. They had consulted their inner darkness and created brutal maps which any sane soldier would avoid.

After all the contestants had submitted their works, us Judges dissected them thoroughly and rated many aspects of the maps. The results were very close in total and we all had a different winner in mind, so we decided to let the players vote for them. Each contestant was given the opportunity to improve their map, a process which was aided by the well known tournament map maker - and judge - Predatore. The three worldbuilders immediately started to chisel, reshape, paint, blow-dry and pimp their map, using the feedback they had gotten from the Judges. After the new deadline had passed and the mappers had uploaded their final pieces, it was up to the players to go out there and test their maps. We saw the new maps pop up in the Kane's Wrath lobby a lot and many votes were donated to the mapventurers. While a poll was a great idea to determine the outcome, things did not turn out as expected, so we had to close the poll.

ToxicShock's comment

I have closed this poll. Our objective in holding this poll was to allow the players to decide the outcome of the competition, based on their appraisal of the maps, because there had been a tie between the entries which the judges could not resolve. However, we have noticed that a significant number of people have joined the site just to vote in the poll without, as far as we can tell, attempting to play on the maps. While we welcome new members here and into the Kane's Wrath community it is very clear now that our objective has failed and that the poll has become something other than a poll on the maps.

I have asked the judges to declare a final winner and break the tie themselves, taking any further advices and input that they see fit. The judges will not be scoring the maps again (they've already done that), they will simply be picking a winner.

Good luck to all of the contestants.

Concluding the long journey to maptasticness, the Judges gathered once more to discuss the definitive winner.

So, without any further ado, we'd like to congratulate Hydrolase for taking the first place in the challenge with his map Volcano Valley! An outstanding map that truly lived up to the theme and with many hours spent on it. Well done!

The second place is taken by AggressivePanda's Ice Arena. A large and beautiful icy battlefield to cool off any red hot ravager. Congratulations!

On the third place, we have of course Stayer231 with his map Wasteland Circles. Wasteland, 'nuff said! An excellent map for any team that fancies some tiberium destruction. Great job!

Of course, there are prizes for everyone! The final versions of the maps will be played on in the last rounds of a future tournament, with of course the winning map being the starter map in the final round. The winning map will also be included in the 1.02+ map pack!

I would like to mention again that we had a very tough time deciding upon the winner and although we had to call out a winner, do know that the scores were very close.

Thank you everyone for participating in this contest, both the mappers and the players. We had a great time judging and guiding the contestants and we may very well host a new worldbuilder challenge in the future with different rules like mission maps and custom game modes!
