Tip of the Week #15 - Silos

By N00bKefka - 5th July 2008 - 21:15 PM

The Tiberium Silo is definitely the under dog of the defense structure particularly because of its uselessness, however they can be of some use due to their cheap cost and fast build speed. Of course their main priority is to store tiberium but this tip of the week will show you some plausible ways to use them. The cost of silos in patch 1.01 will be dropped to a mere $100, this means spamming silos strategically will be very cost efficient. Here are some ways you can use silos effectively.

Silo Wall

In previous C&C series there were always walls to abuse making your enemies feel very frustrated just trying to siege your base; however in C&C 3 this privilege was unfortunately removed. Don't worry, in patch 1.01, walls are back, indirectly at least. Abusing low cost silos can serve as a basic wall to defend against some rush strategies.

Defense against Lightning Spike rush

This can work quite well if you surround the spike with silos, they won't be able to shoot your harvesters because silo blocks its shot. This will at least give you a few vital seconds to bring in some units to destroy the spike.

Defense against bikes

Attack Bikes can't shoot over walls, or silos. So placing a few silos and maybe a watch tower behind it can be troublesome for those harassers to get to your harvesters. Of course this is temporary and silos may need to be replaced regularly.

There might be more to discover, just use your own creativity again.

Silo Swapping

You might be must be wondering what the heck is 'Silos Swapping'? Well this swapping term actually came from Cybernations. It actually means buying the building when you need to do certain things and selling it when you don't need it anymore to save some money. In case you didn't notice, you only need one silo to have 'unlimited' resource cap. This is how you do it:
  • You build a silo whenever you hear 'silo needed'.
  • When you heard the next 'silo needed', sell your first silo and build another one.
  • Repeat until you resource decrease once more
This is very useful when MARVesting resources because you don't want to waste any tiberium now do you? Of course not.
