I played Sivir. We lost very very convincingly.

Any suggestions about improving my game are welcome.

Also any tips about countering Lux?

First of all, welcome to Gamereplays! I will recommend you some guides around the site that will help you even more than my rambling of words:
- Level Thirties' Guide to LoL (http://www.gamereplays.org/community/index.php?showtopic=757838)
- Tips of the Week

Now into the match.

[Gameplay]

There are key concepts that everyone trying to get better at this game should know and practice whenever they can. Last hitting, Positioning and Map Awareness.

Last hitting. Do not autoattack. This is the one of the problems, you want to wait until the creep has low health and then attack (having in mind your autoattack damage). This prevents both pushing (you are open for ganks from side lanes) and taking control of the last hit so you can gain gold.

Positioning. This is what defines team battles. As a tank, you want people to focus at you as hard as possible. As an assassin, your priority is to wait for all the crowd control spells to be depleted in your tank and then engage safely. For a ranged carry, like Sivir, distance from the enemies and your tank is key. You were trapped at the middle of their team sometimes, mainly because you did not move when things went wrong. Try to always stay behind your tank/bruisers.

Map awareness. To be successful at this area you need Wards. Lots of wards. A lot a lot of wards. Each time you go back to base buy a ward or two, do not float gold unless you are aiming for a big item (like a B. F. Sword). Wards will save you from ganks, which will grant you more time at lanes, more last hit and more gold. This also applies to all your teammates, check out the guides above for Ward placement.

[Sivir Specifics]

First of all, the summoner spell Rally is way too underpowered. You already have your ultimate for aspd/damage boost, so it's not neccesary. You need survivability as a carry damage dealer, so I would take either Ghost or Flash. If you are not yet level 12, keep with Ghost as a defensive/offensive spell, and Teleport which is also a good option for laning power and overall map control.

Spamming Boomerang Blade at the creeps is only viable when pushing (the objective is a tower kill or tower pressure). So, do not waste mana and use it only for killing/hitting enemies. Same with Ricochet always active, it will drain mana, so use it only when you want to push or hit multiple targets (during teamfights perhaps).

The shield is a very critical spell on Sivir. It is basically a built-in Banshee's Veil, so the timing is very important, mainly to prevent you from being hit by Crowd Control Spells. Examples are Ryze cage, Mordekaiser's Ultimate, stuns, ignite, and the like. For this spell to work, you need to know your enemy. Their abilities, their combos and mana pool. Of course, it's very difficult at the beggining, but keep all this in mind next time.

play trynda or yi, learn to play them well, realize hardcarries, win games against all odds.

just saying playing sivir without a decent team supporting you is waist of time, unless u rush warmoungs atmas, banshee, BT stack.

Thanks. I was under the impression that by keeping the enemy bottled at his tower, i could easily outfarm him with my BB and ricochet. I guess that doesnt work everytime.

Will keep in mind that "ricochet should be on only when you push"
