Greetings, Comrades! It’s that time again. Let's talk about
FTW #41!
Eighteen aspiring hopefuls joined the party to try their luck for the grand prize. The
Round of 8 separated the men from the boys, with some familiar faces like
Dimon and
Jeje advancing to the quarters. But as things progressed, Jeje's story came to an end by the hands of the Empire player,
zaar, in a convincing 2-0 victory.
Alvin Tey also advanced to face off against zaar. Meanwhile, it was a good day for the Soviets, with Dimon and
B00M making it through to the
Round of 4 to play each other.
It was two mirror match-ups this time, with soviets in one corner and empire in the other, guaranteeing us an SvE final. Zaar and Alvin Tey duked it out as tengus took to the skies in classic EvE fashion. Zaar showed Alvin Tey no mercy and with superior micro and decision making, zaar was the first player to make it into the finals. At the same time, Dimon took an early victory vs B00M, after which B00M decided to forfeit. This meant that zaar and Dimon would clash in the finals.
Two commentaries are available for the finals:
1. Infinity Isle
Infinity Isle was first up. Three dojos came out from zaar, with the intention of capturing both oil derricks, while Dimon opted for a war factory expansion on Tier 1. Immediately moving into the tengu spam, zaar split up his units and started harassing the soviet economy, while simultaneously capturing the opponent’s oil derrick. However, a small number of sickles and a single terror drone managed to fend off the pressure with ease.
Dimon’s fast 3rd refinery gave him the early economic edge as zaar remained on 2. Tengus and VXs attempted some light harassment in the later stages, but again, no real damage was dealt. Dimon took his 4th and got his battle lab while zaar continued to struggle on with his stagnant starting refineries. Zaar was just simply too far behind and an apocalypse tank sealed the deal with a soviet win for game number 1.
2. Battlebase Beta
Battlebase Beta was zaar’s map of choice for game 2. Three dojos came out again from zaar while Dimon’s attempt at the centre was just a single barracks. Despite having 3 dojos, almost no infantry was built and zaar made no effort to take over the garrisons, resulting in nothing but a delayed mecha bay. An early 3rd came out from both players, but the soviet player’s were better defended with a main base sentry gun and flaks by the 3rd.
Tengus flew overhead trying to find an opening to deal some damage, but they had to settle with just tickling the war factory. Meanwhile, Dimon found an opening and sent a tank forward into the heart of the empire base and at the same time, managed to crush all but 1 of the tengus with his mcv. Realising his lead, Dimon smelt blood and rolled on forward for the push with his mcv. The constant stream of hammer tanks caught zaar with his pants down and Dimon increased his lead to 2-0.
Unfortunately, zaar forfeited after the 2nd game which meant that Dimon would be the champion and take the FTW #41 first place crown.
