Tired of Allies dominating air? Fed up of apollos flying over your head? Well, here is a nice Soviet tactic that will help you against Allied Players specifically chosen to remain effective in Patch 1.07.
The Basics
This tactic is centered around the Soviet Twinblade supported Bullfrogs. Why so? Twinblades are extremely strong units, they can harass Ore Colletors, destroy vehicles, kill infantry and in greater numbers destroy buildings really fast. There is just one unit they really fear: The Apollo. The air superiority fighter is direct counter to the twinblade and what is direct counter to Apollos in patch 1.07? The Bullfrog. In this mix twinblades don't have to be afraid of Apollos because bullfrogs have greater range and deal more damage.
The most important thing is to harass your opponent's economy in order to let yourself tech up to tier 3 and then you will be able to deal with his turrets and army with ease. Unfortunately meta-game still changes and some allies players can adapt to this strategy, but still, this is an extremely powerful combo.
The Build Order
- Barracks - Few bears, engie and then maybe few bears again (this is necessary to scout) - 3 Flak Troopers (They are good to help bullfrogs defending from vindi's)
- Power generator
- Refinery
- Refinery
- War Factory - 3 Bullfrogs (obviously if an allie player went air builid, naval yard is possible as well)
- Super Reactor
- 3rd Refinery
- Another 2 Bullfrogs and Airfield at the same time.
(Hammer or two might be needed to counter manspam (if you choose right tree of player powers - they are good for it)
Don't bother migs for now, you need 2-3 Twinblades to harass, send your bullfrogs before Twinblade is ready, this way you can attack him faster - Get 4th ref and T3 or whatever you wish.
Micromanagement
Twinblades must be guarded by bullfrogs. That's extremely important, just a moment of carelessness and your precious Twins are down and you are in trouble because your opponent gets back air dominance. It is good to attack his airfield, your Twinblades will destroy fueling Vindicators and Apollos, your Bullfrogs will destroy them if they start flying.
If you have 3 Bullfrogs you should retreat and rebuilid one or two because Vindicators can deal with 3 Bullfrogs pretty fast. Avoid multigunner turrets, they are extremely good against air. Don't build more than 3 or 4 Twinblades. It is enough to quickly kill an Ore Collector and in case you built 5-6 Twins you have too little ground army to defeat Multigunner turret push or guardian attack.
