I'm perfectly fine with the Insta Capping Engy. If you let one get in your base, too bad. More often then not, letting them cap a single buliding is better then having a sell, and resell for all your buildings.
They are annoying to face as the Soviets though... you get no infantry from selling structures...
I had similar problems as Practice though, with me being fully prepared for Engineers, ready to pack up my MCV and then I smash the button, nothing happens and it gets captured...

I guess some *small* compensation for that is that if you sell the building just before the engi captures it, and the engi enters the building while it's "selling" you keep the cash and he loses the engi. If you kill the IFV you just about come out of it even.
I don't see how you don't notice something like that(Harvester). I guess I'm used to playing without radar and looking @ everything on the map. Engi rush was pretty good.
Follow up! Ra3 kinda builds complacency. It kinda makes you lazy and you just follow your radar. You never really look around for small things like that.

Well over time you actually train yourself to "see" things like that happening via your radar. With manageable numbers of units, you know where little pips on your radar should and should not be.
You can notice a harvester not collecting.
However, what I've been doing lately is using CTRL + J, K, L to assign camera bookmarks to each of my refineries, and I'm conditioning myself to cycle through them whenever I don't have something else to be doing. Allows me to spot and deal with problems efficiently. Since you don't usually have more than 3 refineries, it works well.
