We're nearly two weeks into Faction Wars, with $170 in prizes on the line, and two of the eight champions have now been selected. If you've forgotten the rules,
you can get a refresher here, but the gist of the competition is that we select two faction champions each week for four weeks and invite them to a faction tournament at the end of the month to play for the money.
The eligible champions for the first "week" (actually almost two weeks - the first round is the longest) were determined at 0:00 UTC Saturday/Sunday:
Faction | Champion | Record | Points |
Men | DJParson | 20-8 | 741 |
Elves | NinJaTuRtLe` | 9-2 | 269 |
Dwarves | DevilMayCry^^ | 7-3 | 302 |
Isengard | ExtraSensation` | 11-1 | 331 |
Mordor | ExC^alibur | 2-0 | 173 |
Goblins | DevilMayCry^^ | 9-2 | 287 |
Angmar | DiCaprio` | 6-1 | 392 |
Of course, only two of these players will be invited this week. (To the five champions who were not selected - try to hold your spot for next week!)
First, one of these seven warriors was selected completely at random: DiCaprio of clan LoW, who had a 6-1 record and 392 points with Angmar. DiCaprio edged out Prydz of clan Dust for this week's Angmar spot; Prydz had a 7-4 record and 344 points. It's purely coincidence that DiCaprio is also the second-ranked faction champion this month - any of the seven faction champions could have been selected.
The second warrior to be invited is, of course, the warrior with the most points. That's clearly DJParson of LoW, who is 20-8 with Men and has 741 points. DJParson is nearly 500 points ahead of his nearest Men competitor, and also far ahead of any other faction champion. If DJParson keeps playing this month, Men will not be a good faction to compete in.
This means that the only players invited to the championship so far are from clan LoW. Surely other clans will have invitees next week, but this seems to be an early edge for LoW.
Honorable mention goes to EagleEyes^ of clan D3viL, who had the most points overall but has opted not to focus on any faction, losing the Dwarves competition to DevilMayCry^^ by just 23 points. DevilMayCry^^ himself also deserves mention, for winning both Dwarves
and Goblins due to strong activity, but not getting an invite. (Even summing his Dwarves and Goblins points together would not have been enough to take the invite away from DJParson's Men.) These are certainly players to watch for in the next three weeks of competition.
Finally, GameReplays.org admin ExC^alibur deserves mention for winning the Mordor competition with only two games. While he does have a 100% Mordor win rate... two games is not very impressive. It seems that the Mordor field is wide open for more competitors. Will anyone rise to the challenge next week?
