2.02 v6.0.0 Released!

Greetings Warriors of Middle-Earth!

We are pleased to inform you that your long and anticipated wait can now be put behind you as we have officially released the next version of the 2.02 patch: v6.0.0!

While the wait was longer than initially planned, we have managed to develop quite a large patch (even larger than the successful v5.0.0). Countless hours were devoted to this patch in not only the actual development, but also in planning and intensive balance related discussions. Thanks to the outstanding collaboration of the development forum members, we have produced a work worthy to be remembered!

NOTE: If you have a v5.1.0.big file from the beta in your game directory, make sure you remove it.

Oh but it gets better. We are happy to also release an updated game.dat file with some incredible new features!

Game.dat Major Changes
- The buggy random faction generator is now fixed for good; i.e. players won't be getting the same faction over and over again.
- The game no longer requires a disc (physical or virtual) in order to start (Players on this current patch will still be able to play with other players who use a disc to run their game).
- Players who changed their serial key will no longer receive the auto-defeat issue after 3:30 minutes.
- game.dat can now be launched as an executable without having to run lotrbfme2ep1.exe - you just need to change the file extension .exe. NOTE: Gameranger won't be able to launch the new game.dat properly if you do this, so only attempt it for singleplayer setups.

To install the new game.dat file, do the following:
  1. Backup your original game.dat file which is located in your game's installation directory.
  2. Download the new game.dat file and paste it in your game directory (overwrite the old file).
  3. Start your game normally.
  4. If you lose your original game.dat, download it here.

To dig a little deeper into the details of this patch, let us highlight some focal points of development:


Balance


As obvious and plain as it may sound, balance has been the primary focus of this patch, as careful discussions were made around each and every change / addition. We went so far as not only attempting to fine-tune the nagging balance issues that were left behind in v5.0.1, but also explored completely new and unknown areas of balance. Although we are closer to a more balanced game than ever before, we do admit, there is much that still needs to be done.


Bug Fixes and New Content


As it has been the standard of 2.02 to crunch as many bugs as possible, we have been able to do just that in v6.0.0. You can find a list of the bugs we crunched in the changelog listed further on.

To further unpack the details of this patch, development took an interesting turn in unlocking much of the game's "epic-ness". To elaborate, there has been a major overhaul in the game's voice and sound effects mechanics. We have fixed multiple broken voice response sounds (most of which were found in the Angmar faction), unlocked countless disabled ones and added in some new and brilliant, "lost" files that is certain to pump up your gaming experience! We also improved some visuals and animations along with multiple other aesthetics which we are positive the community will love.


New Maps


We would like to make special mention of the new, quality maps that have come along with the patch. Some part of the community will recognise most of the maps, especially the set of 4v4 no-longer-custom maps which have been very popular over the last several months. We made sure to add in what the community enjoyed most, and now, we no longer have to worry about those horrible map transfers. Our talented mappers have really outdone themselves, and they deserve special recognition - a pat on the back - if you will. The Smoking Man posted a guide about one of our new maps, Twilit Shores.

General Balance Changes

- Signal Fire vision range and shroud clearing range increased to 750 (from 160).
- Ranged Siege Weapon shroud clearing range increased to 500 (from 400) to match firing range.
- Battle Tower build time reverted to 45s (from 1m).
- Level 5 units are now immune to terror (was just fear).
- Hobbit rock damage now has a 60% scalar against Mumakil.
- Builder vision radius reverted to 100 (from 300).
- Cloud Break will now slowly heal allied units across the map for a period of 15s.
- Balrog frost armor increased to 70% (from 100%).
- Summoned Dragon:

- Frozen Land tooltip now indicates that the spell provides faster experience and extinguishes fires.
- Sunflare tooltip now indicates that the spell cancels Freezing Rain and Darkness.
- Added relevant tooltips to the units that form part of the horde bonus filter.
- Good and Evil factions now have new hero and mini-hero upgrade FXs: The Good faction uses a blue FX and the Evil faction uses a red FX).
- Orc Laborers can now be decommissioned at the fortress.
- Summon Men of Dale spell cursor image replaced with another, more appropriate image.
- Bombard spell now uses the correct cursor image (formerly used the Rain of Fire cursor image).
- Undermine summon sound is now louder and can be heard globally.
- Wyrm summon sound can now be heard globally.
- Giants summon sound can now be heard globally.
- Dragon Ally summon sound can now be heard globally.
- Shade of the Wolf summon sound can now be heard globally.
- Reduced the volume of certain unit death sounds (they were too loud).
- All siege (such as catapults, rams, Battlewagons, Trolls, Mountain Giants, Ents, Treebeard, Mumakil, as well as Sauron) will no longer cause allied troops to move out of the way when ordered to move in or infront of them.

Neutral Changes

- Lair Spiderlings:
--- health increased to 250 (from 150);
--- damage increased to 40 (from 10).

AI Changes

- The AI will now use most spells a lot better.
- The Dwarven AI will now actually benefit from Dwarven Riches.
- The Isengard AI will now actually benefit from Fuel the Fires.
- The Goblin AI will now actually benefit from Scavanger.
- The AI will now use the Mordor Catapult Skulls Launch ability.
- Adjusted several AI unit production ratios.
- The Dwarven AI will now recruit Hobbits from the Inn.
- The Mordor AI will now recruit Corsairs of Umbar from the Inn.
- The Angmar AI will now recruit Wildmen of Dunland from the Inn.
- The Brutal AI will now have a 50% cost reduction (from 20%) and a 0% build time reduction (from 20%).
- Increased the number of resource buildings the Brutal AI constructs to 20 (from 14).
- Disabled AI wall construction (The AI uses walls poorly, often enclosing themselves).

Inn Changes

- Angmar Wildmen are now independent: they are no longer summoned by a Thrall Master.
- Hobbits:
--- build cost increased to 150 (from 100);
--- can now earn experience levels;
--- can now purchase the Banner Carriers upgrade;
--- standard formation changed to accommodate the new banner carrier unit.
--- recruit icon reverted to the original 2.01 icon.

Custom Hero Changes

- Dwarven CAH:
--- Axe Throw:
----- damage radius increased to 15 (from 10);
----- recharge time decreased to 30s (from 45s).
--- Leap recharge time halved to 60s (from 120s);
- Train Allies ability:
--- level 1 experience increased to 55 (from 40);

Sound Changes & Additions

- General:
--- Added in 25 completely new voice sound files;
--- Enabled multiple disabled voice sounds for all factions;

--- Freezing Rain initial thunder strike sound is now louder and can be heard by all players;
--- Ambient thunder will now play throughout the duration of the Freezing Rain spell;
--- Added announcements for all fortress upgrades (also added some missing voice files for Angmar's fortress upgrades);

Men

- Gondor Soldiers:

--- EaglePlowAttack weapon now has an 85% scalar against Black Riders;
--- can now earn levels as opposed to starting out at level 10 (uses the same experience template as mini-heroes);

- Wall build radius increased to 1500 (from 750).
- Lone Tower:
--- receives fortress armor and munitions upgrades from a distance of 1500 (was 750).
--- tooltip now indicates that the tower benefits from fortress armor and munitions upgrades.
- Men of Dale:
--- Black Arrows ability range increased to 430 (from 280);
--- Black Arrows auto ability feature can now be activated.
--- The Dwarven Citadel now has its own wall build radius, which allows players to construct walls near the structure regardless of its distance from the main fortress.
- Axe Throwers:
--- re-enabled the Bombard ability for Axe Throwers.
--- increased the axe throw projectile velocity;
--- preattack delay increased to 666 (from 200);
--- firing duration decreased to 1967 (from 2000);
--- delay between shots decreased to 1967 (from 2400);
--- preattack random amount decreased to 200 (from 400).
- Hearth now has an additional tooltip indicating that it is able to detect stealth.
- Battlewagon:

- Temple of Twilight:
--- Well of Souls upgrade moved to level 2;

- Sorcerers:
--- Black Ice can now extinguish fire and be cast anywhere on the map except general restricted areas (i.e water);
--- Soul Freeze:
----- can now freeze Ents (excludes summoned Ents) and Treebeard;
----- summoned Mountain Giants can no longer be frozen.
--- Wells of Souls:
----- Now costs 4 acolytes (from 5);
----- Now costs 400 resources (from 500).
--- Corpse Rain:
----- Now costs 5 acolytes (from 4);
----- Now costs 500 resources (from 400).
--- Well of Souls and Corpse Rain pre-purchase display order swapped to coincide with the Temple of Twilight change.

- Rogash is now a tier 4 hero (was tier 5).
- Dire Wolves:
--- un-upgraded slash armor reduced to 145% (from 140%);
--- upgraded slash armor reduced to 110% (from 105%).
- Shade of the Wolf flame armor increased to 70% (from 75%).
- Rhudaur Axe Throwers:
--- increased the axe throw projectile velocity;
--- added preattack random amount (amount of additional preattack variance).
- Blight duration reduced to 45s (from 2m).

War of the Ring

- Black Orcs:
--- now use basic soldier auto resolve armour (was elite);
--- now use a basic soldier auto resolve weapon (was elite).

Miscellaneous

- Most player colors are tweaked for more clarity.
- New loading screen for standard 4:3 users.

Maps

- Islands of Valinor: new 4v4 map by MauHuR.
- Amon Amarth: changed minimap and global light.
- Anorien II: fixed zoom and fog.
- Dale: new 2v2 map by Mako.
- Harad Oasis: new 3v3 map by MauHuR.

- Army of the Dead will now trigger an eva event when cast on a revealed portion of the map.
- Allied units can no longer enter Burrow Expansions.
- Wildmen Axe Throwers can now be upgraded together with other units.
- Re-enabled Sauron recruit custom music (the bug that prevented the music script from continuing after recruiting Sauron has been fixed).
- Added recruit voice sounds for Isengard Orc Laborers.
- Goblin Archer Poisoned Arrows auto ability will now properly work.
- Lindon Archers will no longer use Elven Warrior attack voice sounds.
- Level 5 units will no longer be affected by terror caused by Gate Watcher Expansions.
- Battlewagon now has an animation when attacking units.
- Saruman's Dominate and CAH Coerce can no longer convert ships (converting ships would usually result in a game crash).
- Mumakil no longer speeds up when affected by fear.
- Sorcerers will no longer automatically acquire flying targets.
- Troll Cage level 3 upgrade no longer indicates that it adds a defensive arrow tower.
- Hour of the Witch-king uncontrollable fear feature can no longer be abused.
- Lindon Archers will no long auto acquire structures.
- Morgomir no longer uses 'Voice Enter State' voice sounds when ordered to charge units or attack siege weapons (this is what the AI would use).
- Fixed Shelob's buggy turn movements.
- Improved Goblin King's general movement when mounted.
- Wolf Rider horde formation tweaked to eliminate movement bug.
- Army of the Dead can no longer be frozen by the Soul Freeze special ability.
- Added "Requires Level 3" to the Goblin King's scorpion mount (was omitted).
- Snow Trolls can no longer crush Noldor Warriors.
- Attack Trolls now gain more health and damage as they level up (as opposed to only gaining these bonuses at level 5).
- Mirror of Galadriel no longer shows incorrect heal radius.
- Damage by Aragorn's Blade Master ability will now sync up with its attack animation animation.
