Measuring performance

The game's frame rate, measured in "frames per second" (= FPS) should ideally always be 30 (except during loading and inside menus). However, small drops to ~27 FPS for brief moments are acceptable. This happens for instance when selecting or moving units.

That said, the framerate definitely should not:
  • Constantly jump to values lower than 30 after being in-game for over 1 minute.

  • Stay below 30 for multiple seconds at a time.

To verify your performance is adequate, play multiple skirmish (1v1, 2v2, 3v3) games with some AIs (brutal) and measure your performance. Make sure that you:
  • Play long enough. There should at least be 400-500 CP of units per player on the map without dropping your FPS.

  • Can scroll across the map freely (use the right mouse button or the arrow keys) without constantly dropping your FPS down to, say, 20 or even 15.

  • Expose the game to some FXs. For instance the "horde bonus" FX or the Thrall Master summon FX.

  • Use visually demanding maps such as Harlindon (1v1), Anfalas II (2v2) and Mirkwood (3v3).
Try comparing your results to when you play on "very low" graphics. That way, you can better judge whether your PC can handle your preferred graphics option.
