Not delay your spam? Its always better to get more caves than tech them up unless you are @ full CP or don't need more GW.
If you upgrade them one by one, the effect of having a bit less Goblins for a short while is hardly noticeable, but when they are upgraded, your caves will be much harder to destroy and they will spam Goblins faster, which you will know over time .
