This Tip is a continuation of angelsfan's
Healing - Which is Better which was published on the 2.01 portal. It's expected that you read that guide before this Tip. This Tip will deal only with the differences between the healing structures from 2.01 to 2.02.
First of all, our stat charts. Values that have changed from 2.01 are in
bold. | | | |
| Siege Kegs | Mystic Fountains | Houses of Healing |
Cost | 1000 | 1000 | 1000 |
Build Time | 30 sec | 30 sec | 30 sec |
Heal Per Sec | 3% | 3% | 3% |
Respawn Time | 6 sec | 6 sec | 6 sec |
Healing Stacks? | No | No | No |
Respawn Stacks? | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Respawn Multiple Battalions? | Yes | Yes | Yes |
The most important change from 2.01 is that in 2.02, all of these upgrades respawn one unit in every nearby horde every six seconds. In 2.01, they respawned one unit from ONE nearby horde every five seconds. Though these upgrades were useless in 2.01, their ability to respawn multiple hordes at once in 2.02 has turned them into very useful purchases. Also, the cost of Mystic Fountains has appropriately been reduced to 1000 (from 1500), so that it is actually purchasable.

| Hearth | Mirror Of Galadriel | Well |
Cost | 300 | 300 | 300 |
Build Time | 45 sec | 45 sec | 45 sec |
Health | 1500 | 1000 | 1250 |
Heal Per Sec | 2% | 3% | 2% |
Respawn Time | 12 sec | 12 sec | 12 sec |
Healing Stacks? | No | No | No |
Respawn Stacks? | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Respawn Multiple Battalions? | Yes | Yes | Yes |
The most important difference here is that the Mirror of Galadriel and the Hearth are now also capable of respawning multiple hordes at once, making them far more useful structures than they were in 2.01, even though they now take 12 seconds rather than 10 seconds to respawn units. Wells, on the other hand, have been nerfed all around from 2.01, since they already had this benefit, and since their buildtime has been increased from 30 seconds to 45 seconds.
What does all this mean for 2.02? It means that, unlike in 2.01, you actually have a choice of which healing structure/upgrade to purchase, there's no obviously right or wrong answer. Often it's better to spend 300 resources on a Well structure early in the game, then choose between either purchasing a second Well later on or springing for the Fortress upgrade. The secondary effects of Siege Kegs (Fortress +1000 health) and Mystic Fountains (heroes -25% respawn time) are helpful, but not really significant enough to affect your decision. On the other hand, Houses of Healing's effect (heroes -20% respawn cost/time) is quite useful, and if you're using a lot of heroes in your army you won't regret buying it.
