Example Scenarios
The following screenshots depict different stacking situations. The captions indicate exactly which modifiers are in effect, what's canceling what, and what the net bonuses are for the units.
Stacking Leadership and a Buff
A very common stacking scenario: Rallying Call (a Buff) is used on units affected by Boromir's Leadership. The units closest to Boromir show his Leadership stacking with the Rallying Call; the units a bit farther away show Rallying Call alone. The units with just Rallying Call have +50% damage and +50% armor. On the other hand, the units with both Rallying Call and Leadership have twice their normal damage (1.50 * 1.33), or +100%. Their defense is +138% (25% + 33% = 58% defense, the equivalent of a +138% defense bonus). In 2.01, the units with just Leadership or just a Buff would have had +50% damage and +100% armor. The units with both stacking would have had +125% damage and +300% armor.
Spells
Each Spell, such as Morgomir's Dark Glory, has a unique FX effect that clearly stacks with other modifiers, such as this Leadership from the nearby Fortress. When Flames of Darkness Leadership and Dark Glory are stacked, the units have +77% damage and +100% armor (the bonus equivalent of 50% armor). In 2.01, Dark Glory gave a -100% armor penalty but just a +50% damage bonus, making it completely useless.
Using a Debuff or Nullifier
Dread Visage stacks with Theoden's Leadership Here we have Leadership stacking with an enemy Debuff. The Leadership is not canceled because only Nullifiers can cancel Leadership:
you can see the Leadership circle still underneath the Debuff. The units have normal damage (.75 * 1.33 = 1.00). They have only a +5% defense bonus (25% - 20%). This shows that a normal Debuff is not quite powerful enough to
completely cancel Leadership, but it's pretty close.
In 2.01, Dread Visage would have completely canceled Leadership before applying its negative effects, leaving the units with -25% damage and -33% armor.
The Mouth of Sauron uses Doubt on the soldiers affected by Theoden's Leadership. The difference between this example and the last is that here, instead of a Debuff, a
Nullifier is debuffing the Leadership. The Leadership is completely canceled before the debuff is applied:
you can see the hollow yellow circle go away. The units have -25% damage and armor, in contrast to the +5% defense bonus they would have had if it were a Debuff like Dread Visage instead of a Nullifier.
