Eowyn

Éowyn was a daughter of the House of Eorl and the niece of King Théoden. Her parents died while she was still young. Éowyn and Éomer (her brother) were raised in her uncle's household as if they were his own children. She fell into depression since she longed to win renown in battle - more so because she was noble - but being female, her duties were reckoned to be at Edoras.

When Gandalf healed Théoden from Wormtongue's corruption, Éowyn became infatuated with Aragorn. Frustrated by unrequited love for Aragorn and longing for death in battle, she disguised herself as a man and under the alias of Dernhelm, traveled with the Riders of Rohan and Merry Brandybuck to the Battle of the Pelennor Fields outside the White City of Minas Tirith. During that battle, she confronted the Witch-king of Angmar, Lord of the Nazgûl, after Théoden was injured. The Witch-king was killed after Merry stabbed him behind the knee and Éowyn stabbed him "between crown and mantle". Éowyn was severely injured in this fight and believed dead until Prince Imrahil of Dol Amroth realized she still lived. Because of the poisonous effect of the Black Breath of the Nazgûl and her hopeless love for Aragorn, she faced near-certain death and was brought up to the Houses of Healing together with Merry. However, she was treated in time by Aragorn.

While recuperating in the Houses of Healing, she met Faramir, with whom she soon fell in love with and married. After the demise of Sauron, the happily wedded couple settled in Ithilien, of which Faramir was made the ruling Prince by Aragorn.

Cost: 1000

Eowyn’s Abilities

IPB ImageSmite (Level 1)

A more powerful spear throw attack than Eomer’s version. This is useful against Fellbeasts, builders and heroes.

IPB ImageMount/Dismount (Level 3)

Allows Eowyn to mount her horse, gaining a speed advantage but gaining vulnerability to pikemen.

IPB ImageDisguise (Level 4)

Not a very useful power, but it makes her invulnerable to hero-targeting abilities like Cripple Shot.

IPB ImageShield Maiden (Level 5)

Eowyn temporarily gains +50% armor.

When to use Eowyn

Eowyn is, unlike most other Men of the West heroes, more of a tank and less of a supporter. Like all heroes, she should never be completely on her own, but she does not have any supportive abilities. She's best against Angmar, Mordor and Dwarves, since she can snipe Thrall Masters, counter Nazgul, and will survive longer against Dwarven units than most other heroes. She is good in other match-ups as well, serving as a good tank and unit killer.
