Elite Units - Armor

As fun as a horde of half-naked Repentia women armed with monstrous chainsaws is, there's something about tanks that just appeals to people - even more so when those tanks are spitting out huge gouts of flames. In this page, we'll go over the armored units available to the Sisters.

The Rhino is an awesomely useful little tank. When you've just reached Tier 2, especially if the enemy has a lot of Tier 1 troops holding you in your base, knocking out a quick Rhino or two can be a perfect way to repel them since most Tier 1 infantry can't deal well with tanks. Rhinos are good at driving through enemy squads, forcing them to move and re-deploy (especially good with Fire Warriors since their basic weapons have a setup time). Their storm bolters deal respectable damage to enemy troops. Their main use, naturally, is as a transport. They have two transport slots that can be filled with squads. However, Celestian and Repentia squads both require two slots to be carried, so either of those will fill an empty Rhino. Battle Sister squads, however, can be carried two at a time.

Rhinos can also use Laud Hailers, and are the only unit besides buildings that can use them. Laud Hailers will be discussed in the Unit Upgrades section.

At first glance, someone familiar with the Imperial Guard may look at an Immolator and think, "Oh, a Hellhound with a female gunner". While the basic idea is the same (armored vehicle, lights stuff on fire), the practical parts are rather different. Immolators are far more expensive, take longer to build, and take 3 vehicle population apiece, compared to a Hellhound's 2 vehicle pop. This is not because the game designers hate the Sisters of Battle. It's because the Immolator is far more effective at destroying things. The Immolator has more hit points to start with, and can be upgraded at the Manufactorum to have even more. The Immolator's twin heavy flamers do just sickening amounts of damage, a few times what the Hound's inferno cannon does, and for extra fun, the Immolator can upgrade to carry a multi-melta which turns enemy light vehicles, tanks, and buildings into molten slag. Immolators are not quick response vehicles, they take almost a minute of your time and large amounts of resources to get on the field, but when you do get one out, it's probably going to cause heavy damage. All told, Immolators are great little assault tanks and should never be ignored entirely.

IPB Image Lightning Fighter - 100 IPB Image 200 IPB Image 2 IPB Image

The Lightning is the Sisters' air unit, able to move very quickly to any part of the battlefield regardless of what's in its path. Its actual damage is somewhat lacking, so far as air units go the Lightning is towards the bottom of the list as far as effectiveness is concerned, but it's relatively cheap, quick, and only costs 2 vehicle cap, so using it as a scout or harassment unit is fine. I don't recommend using more than two, though, and don't let them get caught in direct combat without your personal attention. If they start taking a beating, pull them back out and repair them. Once they start losing health, they usually go down quickly.

Lightnings can also serve as good spotter units for Exorcist artillery tanks, particularly their Hunter-Killer missiles.

IPB Image Exorcist - 100 IPB Image 225 IPB Image 4 IPB Image

This is the Sisters' answer to other armies' artillery support, and is better than most of them. It has excellent range, causes massive troop disruption (if little actual damage), and best of all, has no friendly fire or even friendly knockdown. This tank is best kept back out of the way of the fight, as it has no close range weapons and few hit points, but serves excellently as an artillery unit. It really shines for its Hunter-Killer missile, an ability you can use once every three minutes to fire off an anti-tank rocket with range that is, virtually, unlimited (the missile's range is more than the size of most game maps). A very useful tactic is to keep your Exorcist on a specific hotkey, and as soon as you see an enemy armor unit getting low on health, hit that hotkey and launch the HK missile into its face. You can also use Lightnings or Assassins to spot the enemy base and drop HK missiles right into his home position. I don't recommend having more than one Exorcist due to their tank cap of 4, but if you do have more than one, you can destroy a generator with a single salvo of HK missiles (two can do it if you're lucky with your damage results). Repeating that every three minutes can be extremely annoying to the enemy.

IPB Image Penitent Engine - 150 IPB Image 330 IPB Image 4 IPB Image

The Penitent Engine is the most powerful non-relic unit in the Sisters army, bar none. It's got good morale-breaking ranged weapons with its flamers, which also do excellent health damage to enemy troops. It does great damage to everything in melee combat, it's extremely fast, and it's stacked with hit points. It's also a Tier 4 unit and one of the last things you'll have access to, so trying to "hold off until Penitent Engines" is NOT a viable strategy. That's really all you need to know about this thing, it absolutely destroys the enemy and it does so very well. Anti-tank weapons will still bring it down, but it moves so fast that you should be able to get into melee with the biggest threat and destroy it quickly.
