Supreme Commander

The Attempted Mercy Rush

This guy attempted to Mercy rush, and I sent in 3 GG which stopped his plans AND killed his ACU. I didn't even know what the guy was building until I watched the replay. I wanna know what I did right and wrong so I can get better as well.

I'm aware that he's not good, but I'm sure there are things I could have done better.

I'm no expert my self, but I can give you some of the usual basic stuff.
First of all I don't think he wanted to do any rushes, it looked like he was trying to learn the game (don't know why people use ranked games for that wacko.gif ).

Second, you probably noticed how you ran low on energy early on. Try building some energy first, then moving in for the mex, since it gets recollected while you are moving.
Or you could move your com toward the next max, after building that first factory (while the first engie is build, so it gets build faster and your energy supply rises a little too). Some players like to build some fighting units after the first engie, since they are cheaper on the energy and are build faster (that means there will be more pauses where your resources jump to positive income!). Besides you have some units to defend or even better harass his unprotected engies!

Next scouting. You your self sad, that you didn't know what he was building until it was too late to matter. Big mistake... Always know what your enemy does, so that he can't get you off guard. If he had some aircraft you would have thrown those 3 t1 gunships away.

Also try working on your "com movement into building position". It may only be seconds but sometimes that's all that it takes.

Thanks. Another person told me to build Eng more and that definitely helped, I won a second game soon after this one, same map except against a UEF opponent. In that game I got pretty much the entire map, except for his corner, and took out his ACU with 3 Janus and 2 Stingers.

your Build order(bo) needs some work you are walking your ACU too far.

look here http://www.gamereplays.org/community/index...howtopic=205063

some don't apply anymore because of balance changes but it is still a great guide you need to get more land scouts out if he had any Light bots(LABS) with scouts yours would have been killed without even firing.

GGs are good but UEF's aren't that great. They are just so big and bulky. you need more defense. gg rushing is fun but against a good player they would have made some inters and your ggs would have been dead

On Theta a wall at the bottom is a lot better then PDs. cheaper and a heck of a lot more HP, sometimes even try 2 walls until you get into the T2-T3 units that will stop anything from getting through. There are three groups of rocks for each side on this mp use those they will give you more mass early on.

You only scouted him once when you got your first scout up. Just try to get more sometimes I will use one Air factor(AF) just to build scouts.

Did they stop operating this site or something?

Hi Nakedsnake,

No the site did not stop operating, just that there were not a lot of Replay Reviewers for a while. We have now got some more on board and we are trying to work through the replays.

It takes a while tho, as I have to spend about an hour per replay to write a decent review as well as fit that in with real life and getting some sup com played myself smile.gif

i almost stopped watching this when i saw the aeon player build factory first before any mex or pgens. i thought that maybe he makes a decent comeback w/ the mercies later. i'm sorry but this was the worst replay i've seen in a while in terms of entertainment value and educational value.

People post replays in this section so that they can be critiqued. If you are going to say something bad about someone's replay then kindly explain why and suggest how they can improve. They are not for your entertainment or education.

NakedSnake, hopefully one of our replay reviewers can get round to reviewing your replay and if not then I myself will personally review it when I have some free time.

Until then, be sure to check out these guides:

Gnug215's Strategy Guide - This is basically a general guide to getting into the swing of competitive gaming.
AngryZealot's STFU Guide to Stop Sucking at Sup Com - Again, a pretty general guide by one of the best players in Supreme Commander (note that when he says all strategy guide's are wrong that he's talking about the ones over at the GPG forums wink.gif)
In-depth Guide to Theta Passage - A Guide I wrote recently to playing Theta Passage and doing a transport gunship rush.

I've not watched your replay yet so I don't know how relevant they are but they all contain valuable information.
