I consider destroyers to be game-ending units, because their mere presence can cause incredible destruction... thus I typically give even the possibility of destroyers high regard.
I honestly don't know why Ftorst was making a rectangle of torpedo launchers around his Cmdr out in the ocean anyway.
He had resource superiority (I like that word ) after his comeback from a rather huge energy crisis (he must have been half asleep ) so he could easily have regained air superiority complex.
The only reason I can think of why he hid his Cmdr in the water was because of the bombers which he could have easily countered. I must admit I thought it was over for him when he ran into low energy.
