I don't understand this careless usage of the commander. Your game depends on him, yet you throw him around on a whim. Please enlighten me if I'm missing here something. I understand as long as you stick with your front troops and build mexes/fast PD's into advantageous spots, but once you send him on suicide missions..
Well, because you lose if you don't use him. If I didn't use him offensively, Eshez would've got all the extra mass points by simply moving his commander around. It's very risky but necessary. I was rather careless with mine I admit. It was mainly due to crappy scouting, I didn't see those units coming at the end.
Seriously though, on small maps you MUST use your commander offensively or you lose. Simple as that.
Well tbh I don't have much experince with offensive commander, I gotta learn the commander limits, we both been a bit careless, but it was fun and we've learned quite a bit
Personally, i would make the commi have a lot less HP and a weaker gun, but provide it with 3-4 upgrade-levels each increasing weapon and armor. I dont see a point in losing douzen of T1 units to a single unit. I think this will get some kind of nerf/change from GPG.
The best solution would be to take away the self-repair from the commi, but make it a mid-game upgrade.
