I hate this replay is going to be killed in the next few days by the patch, but here it is anyway...me and Blazing decided to do some practice games on Theta, and this is easily the best of them. Hour long, Cybran v Aeon.

Anybody who's good with Cybran who'd like to chime in on how I could've ended it earlier, or broken through once he got nice and turtle up, please chime in smile.gif

The initial posts sounds like you did win the match ? I stopped watching after his GC grilled your ML as i was expecting your loss by then.

Anyways. I dont think there is a way to defeat this. Lately aeon use their Oblivions do creep forward, just like cybran did with the cerberus some weeks ago. Since the Oblivion just pwns every other static defense and thier shields are superior to cybran ones i dont think there is a way to stop them.

Oblivion > Cerberus
Aeon SCU > Cybran SCU (combat wise vastly superior!)
Harbingers > Loyalists
Aeon Shields > Cybran Shields
Aeon T2 static arty > Cybran T2 static arty

Anyways. I really enjoyed how you made use out of mobile artillery, very good. That and your initial cerberus creep were pretty good. Once Harbs did show up it become pretty hard though.

Yes but:
hunter > flare
sky slammer > thistle
mole > spirit (I just think cloak makes it more useful than other scouts)

TEE EMM ELL!

TEE EMM ELL!

TEE EMM ELL!

They are my new best friend for cracking a turtle in the early stages. Not much effect once they have a gazillion shields up, but in the early stages, you might be able to snipe his comm or at least take out all of his mex. Especially on a small map like this, there are a couple places you can hide a TML under mobile stealth that will reach almost every mex.

Lazers really spammed the TMD, but that may have been because he saw you coming with tons of MML's. If you hadn't pumped a few of those out, and just made 4 T2 engs instead, you could have smacked down a TML and a couple of missiles rather quickly.

Just remember, the answer to everything in this game is TML. Seriously. True story.

Sion: No, I lost, I just felt like I should've won it at like 12-15 minutes or so.

RDon: more than that, after talking to TheBigOne (and after beating Lazers in the rematch that threatened to do the same thing this one did) I think that if I'd just built a few rhinos and pushed hard at his comm instead of doing the cerb creep I could've won...

Hi tharr, reviewing this sucker:

The Setting:
It's Theta Passage, TimmyFred playing Cybran from the lower corner, against BlazingLazers playing Aeon from the top.

The Game:
Solid starts, which is to be expected from these two top players.
TimmyFred goes for his signature early Hunter rush/raid, while Blazing is in the defensive.

This situation continues, as TimmyFred keeps pushing hard, contain Blazing totally in his corner.
It really heats up once they get to T2, when TimmyFred tries to Cerb creep Blazing.

But Lazers keeps his cool, turtles up, goes heavy Harb and econ, and goes for T2 Arty. TimmyFred fires back with T3 Arty and more T3 bots.

Fun game all in all. Does well to show what can happen in the mid-late stages of the game.

Cons & Pros:

BlazingLazers:

Pros:
Excellent turtling. Kept your head cool and defended well.
Very good economy handling.
Making the most of of very little room.
Great creep.

Cons:
A bit too passive early on, almost as if actively and deliberately taking on the role of turtling - although it was in the face of a very good rush.

TimmyFred:
Pros:
Great Hunter micro.
Good early pressure with Cmdr.
I love how you went ahead and built that mex up top in Blazing's area, even though it was killed right after. wink.gif
Caught up pretty good in economy at one point when you had been surpassed.

Cons:
The obvious: Couldn't get a win from that situation. Couldn't break the turtle.
Didn't quite know what to do late game.

Conclusion:
The action is pretty much constant.

And I absolutely love the fact that in spite of this being Theta Passage, and two top players, we still get all the way to the Experimental stage.

Sure, TimmyFred should have cracked Blazing's turtling, but a turtle is like kryptonite for TimmyFred, so we'll forgive him for that. Still makes for a very entertaining game. smile.gif

As for what TF should have done in the situation, well, he's encourage people to give him ideas, so go ahead!

My contribution: When ahead there, tech up econ, mexes, stop production (and waste) of smaller units, more arty (T2, T3), not sure if you used SCU RAS, but it didn't look like it, nor did it look like you used the SCU Self-Repair upgrade, which is really nice.

Score: 7/10

I think TimmyFred could have won it early if he had've sent successive waves. It looked like he attacked with one wave, almost broke through, by that time had another medium sized wave, but never followed through. Same kind of goes for BlazingLazers. After you fended off those attacks after getting t2 pd's, you could have countered with the seige bot superiority you had and probably done some nice damage. Also nobody took advantage of early air superiorty AT ALL. If either player had gotten about 20 t1 bombers, they could have done a measure of damage. Blazing could have won at about the 35 min mark, also, if he would have attacked through the gap in the wall in the middle of the map that was completetly defended by 2 TECH 1 PD's.

Nice game though, can't really rant too much. It's a lot easier to criticize somebody than to actually seize those opportunities in a game.
