how incredibly frustrating to watch deadlegion, why on earth did you continue to sacrifice T1 and T2 units into something you obviously couldn't penetrate, you just sacrificed units pointlessly over and over and over and over
if he's turtling like that why not just park a few of your units outside to prevent him from escaping, tech up, build 2 strategic bombers and kill his commander you scouted many times that he had zero air defenses
I'm not just talking from hindsight, you had plenty of intelligence with those scouts, you knew EXACTLY what his situation was, yet you chose to send wave and wave of T1 and T2 units, even right at the end, seriously an hour into the game you're still sending T1 and T2 units into uninterpretable shields and defenses...
as people previously said, really impressive start, you totally dominated him, very good build early on... but after your attack didn't penetrate his defenses for the first two times, why keep doing it over and over for another 40 mins
it's like a fly flying into a window for 40 mins trying to get out, when all it needs to do is fly 2 meters to the left into the open
QUOTE(TNT @ Feb 25 2007, 10:43 AM)
I lost, but I held out for infinitely longer than I should have been able to.
and due to reasons above, I believe this is not due to defenses being overpowered as your post claims

I can't agree more..
The first 10mins were very good, and then he fell asleep I would have made sure that he couldn't get out (neither with transports..) and then built 40 bombers and bye bye commander.. And if you want to have more fun: built 20 fatboys and have a go at it.. but the lvl1 and lvl2 was kinda useless.

Very Very simple
There is this thing called the unit cap.
And welcome to the forums bud .
T1 bombers also wouldnt have done squat to his shields, he had AA and the bombers would lose. Also bombers arnt cheap.
After I contained him (Me and TNT knew the game was 'decided' at this point) I decided to see if it was possible to penitrate an aeon defensive wall on the ground. And obviously it is very difficult even with a large number of t3 siege bots, a similar cybran and UEF defense would have easily crumbled under that assault.
Some of you may wonder why I gave up hitting the base with T2 arty. (And I did focus fire, watch the replay and hold shift what you are seeing is the inaccuracy of the cannon) Aeon T2 arty is very accurate and only two of them can pop any shield configuration I can muster against it. It is also very powerful and pops the shield only after one shot. In addition aeon arty can one shot UEF and Cybran arty. Continueing to try to attack his base with t2 arty at that point was well, pointless. TNT was also quickly rebuilding any shields I managed to destroy, using the fact that buildings built on wrecks start at 50%.
The only ground unit I didnt try that I should have was to build a ton of t3 mobile arty and see if it could pound that defensive wall into submissoin.
A 750 or 1000 unit cap would help , but eh.
The purpose of the t1 units later though was to draw the arty fire while I was assembiling the t3 bots. Without TNT scouting he doesnt know what he was shooting at (until i moved the t3 bots to attack) and a large number of his shots were at the t1 bot groups which I had rallied in range of his t2 arty.

THAT was one of the best matches I've ever seen.. In the sense of DeadLegion being a player I would NEVER want to face.. Jesus ChrisT.. That was some impressive defenses you had there, TNT! Too bad you never really got to go on the offensive mode.. Could've been nice, if you have had build a GC to send out into the battle.. But that's how it goes sometimes..
Great watch guys, this game should definitely be gold, since it showed how to set up a proper defense and also how the attacker cracked the defense..

I think you are slightly underestimating what it takes for a game to become gold. This could probably receive a medal as a tutorial replay, giving advanced instructions about turtling and sieging, but thats pretty much all. The game is interesting, but i dont feel it is even worth becoming silver, and i dont mean to offend TNT or DeadLegion. For a replay to become gold, it needs to be played perfectly by both parties. A lot of micro, no mistakes at all, a steady flow of counter-counter-counter, exploiting every weakness of your enemy just to see him exploiting every weakness of yours.

Yep this definatly isnt gold worthy, very few replays are. I know personally I didnt play my best game here, I did even make a mistake in my build order that fortunately I overcome without being put at a disadvantage. I cant speak for TNT and the mistakes he made (like not aggressively contesting the map) but I'm sure he didnt play a near perfect game either.
Also the fact that I chose to try to break his turtle instead of just going t3 gunships or doing a t2 transport siege drop in the back of his base. By not going around his defense I allowed the game to last a good 20 minutes longer than it should have.
But it definatly was a FUN game dispite our mistakes.

I just finished watching the game. Some things i should note, all regarding the most important early game.
TNT, you had not a single scout by the time you send your engineers to expand. In addition, you had not a single friggin scouts when he was attacking you. Aeon absolutly need scouts or radar. Playing without intel is like giving the auroras range advantage away. This should not happen at any time. To be exact i think thats the worst thing that could happen when playing aeon.
DeadLegion: Nice massing of more and more factories throughout the game. However, one thing i should note is that you send a mech marine and a scout to each flank, this was obviously very good. However, you only killed his engineer on the right flank. The one on the left was slowing advancing to the backyard 3 mass points, even though you had scout and mech marine just seconds away. Secondly i have to disagree with you regarding T2 artillery. I think you should have focued more build power on your forward artillery base. Setting it up with stealth was great btw. Anyways. You should have massed a lot more Klinkhammers, in the beginning you only had 1 engineer doing Klinkhammers. Secondly, you should have made use out of the power-generator rate-of-fire bonus.
Apart from that pretty good play by you. A shame you wanted to have fun instead of brute effiency

Agreed. Like I said, after the early game was lost I just wanted to prove my point of redicuous Aeon defenses.
Also- if he had stopped assault me on the ground, I would have T3 shielded my base up and started on a GC. Spammed T2 flak can easily make a base air-proof (with enough of them protected by shields). Because of his constant ground assaults I had to continue upgrading my defenses and repairing them, pouring money in. I just wish I had started on a flying fortress and powered the construction purely with the wreckage income- I could have built it way off in the corner of the map (like at my missile base) to avoid him seeing it when scouting. He didn't have a whole lot of AA and with enough ceptor/recon spam I might have been able to jump his commander.
Also, kudos for not attacking my interceptors in my diversion. I was counting on them drawing off your interceptors so my transports could drop outside your base... Unfortunately for me, I wasn't agressive enough in drawing them off.
