of course you need air to counter a transport, fa and sc were the same. though instant transporting should probably be fixed.

they are strong probably a little op, but not building any real aa at all is not a good way to counter them.

Its simple, if you don't plan on countering transports then you won't succeed. If you have fighter cover you'll see transports before they arrive at your base. Defense in depth at all times.

The problem is not that the transport drop stratergy is OP, the problem is that they have way to much HP so even if you have good AA, they are still very hard to bring down.

But what if the transports come in at an angle that you don't see

Wasn't Cola's ACU out of his goal nets so to speak. Also what about scouting as Cola didn't know what his opponent was doing. Also once Cola knew about the transport drops, he completely ignored it, and continued in the middle like blindly doing something against the major threat

I found this to be one of the most instructive replays I've seen yet. brn4meplz demonstrated exactly why the transport rush works. The tactic doesn't do much damage economically at first, but what it does is it gives the player the initiative.

1:45 - cola_colin builds loyalists (assualt bots) and cobras (missle launchers), and builds the forward base not too far forward. Seems like a good strategy to counter the upcoming transport rush.

2:58 - cola_colin maneuvers to counter the transport rush. brn4meplz destroys 2 structures, meanwhile starting a tank spam.

4:20 - cola_colin has stopped the initial transport rush. Now both sides are building up econ and spamming units.

6:25 - brn4meplz has to pause his factories in order to build a mex.

6:57 - Does cola_colin at first think that bomber is a transport? Or maybe he's just trying to get his units out of the bomber area of effect.

7:19 - cola_colin probably sees the tanks being loaded in the transport in his radar because he is moving his big bunch of units back. brn4meplz therefore gains the initiative.

8:01 - brn4meplz sees the enemy units are going to beat his transport, so he jukes his transport toward the center. cola_colin falls for the juke.

8:05 - THE KEY MOVE!!! brn4meplz jukes his tanks feigning to attack cola_colin's forward base. cola_colin has to make an important decision: protect his forward base, protect his home base, or split his units and try to do both.

8:14 - Look how cola_colin's units are midway between brn4meplz's tanks and transport. Now the transport has a good chance to beat cola_colin's units to its unload zone.

8:37 - cola_colin decides to split his forces to protect his home base and his forward base as best he can. brn4meplz is controlling all of cola_colin's actions.

8:47 - Maybe cola_colin is undecided about what to do. At first he draws all his units back to the center, then at 8:58 he brings his units back toward the transported tanks. Unfortunately for him, all of the tanks survive.

9:21 - brn4meplz moves his base tanks forward. Perhaps cola_colin sees he is being too defensive and unsuccessfully so. Now he draws all his units back to the center, sacrificing his home base.

9:48 - brn4meplz draws his troops back and now his transported tanks can have their way with cola_colin's home base.

11:03 - cola_colin's mixed force annihilates brn4meplz's homogeneous group of tanks, so brn4meplz plans to move his ACU to a new base, knowing his is about to be destroyed. Meanwhile brn4meplz's bombers are slowly but diligently pecking away at cola_colin's ACU without opposition.

12:00 - neither player has a base and brn4meplz is on the run. However, the relentless bombers have cola_colin's ACU down to mere pixels of health, and soon it succumbs.

I would like to note that the initial transport rush was countered rather effectively, in my opinion. I don't believe brn4meplz had much of a unit/structure/economy advantage after the rush. And in fact brn4meplz didn't really have an initiative advantage either, because not much happened for the next few minutes. Furthermore, cola_colin may have had a research advantage at that point (we don't know because research isn't shown in the replay) since brn4meplz spent his early research on the transport. It was the second transport, after 7 minutes, and the related maneuvers, that really made the difference.

I believe this game was won by brn4meplz due to three facets: 1) the transported units cause cola_colin to try to fight on two fronts, 2) the end-game bombers were unopposed and eventually led to the destruction of cola_colin's ACU, and 3) brn4meplz's subtle maneuvering and juking of his home base tanks and the transports between 8:05 and 9:21 caused cola_colin's units to be out of place and thus ineffectual for long enough for brn4meplz to take advantage.

Great game by both players!
