Could be just me, but i think gunships are good for stuff other than ACU sniping too.

But more than that, it took you 15 minutes too long to start spamming air.

Yes, Cygnus didn't choose an optimal strategy, but it is also clear that the Illuminate is ******* OP on this map, if only because of the hovering MMLs. There's also no doubt that Illuminate Nanites + Overcharge + Teleport + Shields is the definition of OP. The only thing missing in terms of Illu OP strats was a tactical missile structure rush.

Anyway, the best opening for UEF against Illu on this map is air. The only effective counter for Illu then is to move the ACU across at least half the bridge and establish a forward base. However, there's a good chance that the Illu player is already commited to a different strat, in which case the UEF player will usually win (using Gunships + AC-1000s, and later, if necessary, LRA).

Umm yes I was being pushed back because I know that going pure landspam won't win me the game (they'll just wait till they get tele and you're done) and he outeco'd me solely because of those mml's just raping my mexes. You could try going pure airspam but everyone knows that it's not hard to beat that (just push with land forces and build AA towers on the way, then build factory near base -> factory shield + AA). Perhaps I should've just gone pure gunships I agree, but still I had around 40 bombers upgraded w shields & cluster bombs (they give scorch dmg too) and they couldn't take it down.

On maps like this you have to beat the Aeon player twice. First to kill his base and his units, and then to kill his rampaging ACU. People here speak of how he could have executed strategy A or B which may had lead to him winning, but why is it such and uphill battle against Aeon even after his base and units are destroyed?

I was thinking that he used the wrong strategy and played wrong too, but your point is completely true. Why should he even need a complex strategy against a lone ACU, while he has his base and units(which means victory in normal conditions)? That alone shows the degree of power of Illuminati ACU. Only thing you are wrong about is killing twice. Since the shield itself is as powerful as two ACUs, you should have said at least "four times." smile.gif

I have newly started playing this game, and after seeing this replay I thought all fully upgraded ACUs were strong like this. Yes they are good, but not almost invincible like this one.

And no, I have deliberately written the name like that.
