Great game.

From my point of view, Matiz lost when Meph acquired naval superiority with his vespers, and destroyed his naval production capabilities. From there, it was a downhill battle: Meph's Auroras where already harassing Matiz all over the map, but when Meph brought in that Infinity Class Cruiser, it destroyed all of Matiz's Stork Torpedo Bombers, as well as any anti naval capabilities.

His opponent reigning high and undisputed on the seas, it took Matiz little time to abandon.

What I found impressive in this game is that not only did Meph create quite a naval fleet, he did it while keeping his land forces strong, stronger than Matiz. I'm not sure I'm good enough to say this with certainty, but I think Meph did a better job of harassing Matiz with his bombers, gaining a bit of territory and mass advantage, untill he all together just outproduced (and maneuvered) Matiz.

Yesterday, I actually watched the 1 year old Matiz vs Gollum 2 hour game on the same map (this game), and the difference in game quality is blatant.

Hm, absolutely poor Cooper micro, Matiz. What was up?
I can't imagine that there was something more important then microing them when you got them. You could have gained the see superiority just with a little bit of micro. A Cooper should never die to T2 (non Cybran) subs, T1 subs, T1 frigates and they even don't really have to fear an Exodus as long as the Exodus isn't shielded and the Cooper microed well...

Oh and it might help if you guys use some shiny lamps!

Well, from my point of view, this clearly shows how Cooper sucks compared to all its counterparts. It has nothing that could balance out the fact, that it's not submerged. Maybe matiz shouldn't have split his navy like that and he should have kept them grouped, but I doubt that would save him from navy+auroras.

I agree with poita about the air importance, matiz was kinda static. post-13661-1143531603.gif He even had air superiority at one point, why not build a couple bombers or a drop, but I guess he just had too much to manage at that point.

Nonetheless, it was nice to watch something else than palms/canis/theta/finns for once. Gets my wub.

Coopers are just great if not greatest (Cybran stealth sub and Aeon Exodus are great, too). Matiz just failed when he used them, that's all.
Coopers are much like Hoplites. If you set the arrival point of your T2 factories into your enemies main base and just spam Hoplites they will also be useless, but pretty much everyone knows that Hoplites are anything but useless if you micro them well...
Aurora range: 26
Aurora speed: 3

Cooper range: 50
Cooper speed: 6

It's your fault if Auroras ever kill a Cooper. Use frigates to kill the Auroras and Coopers to kill the submarines which are guarding the Auroas. It's a good combination.
If he got T2 naval and Auroras send the frigates in and dodge the Exodus and kill it with frigates + Coopers after. As long as your opponent didn't got to much T2 naval this should also work well...

Hmm, in the last 2-3 games I've watched meph his play has been of a towering standard.

Seriously, that just proves they suck. While I can just build T2 subs and send them into combat, Ill have to babysit coopers and watch out for hovering units/frigates/cruisers, with T2 subs, all I have to care about are subs/destroyers/torpbombers.
