Thanks for posting this. I had yet to see a decent matchup between Japan and Germany in colonial and it confirmed a lot of my misgivings about the subject as a German player. Massed xbows, as here, do relatively well against ashigarus, but ashigarus have so many more HP, a higher ranged attack and are significantly faster. I think you knew that intuitively, and just ground the German down with the repeated clashes. Once you threw naginatas into the mix, there was not much he could do to stop you.
Micro in this game was great on both sides, but I think you proved that Japan's inherently better colonial units will generally win against Germany in colonial. Even card-upgraded Uhlans will not prevail against 10 un-upgraded naginatas, and when the German economy is solely dedicated to cranking out crossbows, you can ultimately count on winning the battle for cavalry dominance. And when you do that, the crossbow mob is dead, especially when you have 15 or 20 muskets firing on them as they try to retreat from the horses.
GG to both sides. It was a well-fought contest; the outcome was not clear until close to the end.
Yar, was a fun game but my micro sucks, I just click randomly on all the units His micro, though... especially at the beginning when he ran with his cbows so he kept out of range of my poor ashis
GG. We played 3 games, and that's the 3rd one. I might post the others once.
