Well I tried using chakrams and camels, everything to beat the otto Jan spam but there are just too many of the damn things. what could I have done to beat this? (And dont say make gurka they dont do any better than sepoy do). Building castles probably wouldnt help due to jan high siege capability.

Unfortunately, the answer is not as straightforward as it looks.
For the most part, this seems to be a micro, not a strategic problem. The core of it seems to be that when he engages you, he tends to have more, does the damage, and makes it harder to win the next bout. There's a case where you engage him around half map and only pull back after significant losses - so tat even when you do later beat him in your base, the damage is already done and you're already lagging behind.

Gurkhas might have an effect on the jans, but people suggesting them also have the range in mind - the idea being the gurkhas have more range, so you can shoot the jans then back off making it more difficult or even impossible for them to fight back. It may lead to him being lured deep into your base, which in trun can lead to him being cornered and destroyed too - but that's another story.

Chakrams are good vs HI, so your logic there is good.

He also carried a group of Cherokee skirmishers and some abus, which you need to be careful of. Nothing resists against abus (except wagons, and they don't shoot back) so only the camels have a really good response to them. It's obviously difficult to keep them alive that long - but a good guide is to make sure units at least die well, fighting the right type or evens at least.

Sepoys are ok, just beware of abus and the skirmishers. If you do fight jans with them, you need to outnumber him or at least be even in numbers or it'll end badly.

Agra Fort can help you out, but don't bother to forward it - keep it at home where it's more useful. You ideally want all your firepower together when you do face down with him.

Minutemen-type units can always help, but the key is to time them well - you want them to typically come out at the same time your reasonably even-matched force is already fighting off the enemy. The MM's tip the scale....and he's in trouble. smile.gif

No single tip would really help you win this, although the fighting concentrated part is the key to much of it. It's unfortunately a case of bring it all together, and even when you are PR 35 you'll just get an Otto whose rush is even better.

u have 1-2 cards not used all the time ohmy.gif, the game isnt about that u beat 1 fight and u win, u need to think what u do after the first fight too. chakrams + sepoy is ok, you are not.. work on yourself, not the strat imo tongue.gif

Start with Gurkha. Hit and run his jans so they cant get a shot off. Never stand and fight. Later build a stable. If he adds Hussars make zamburak. If he adds abus make sowars.

Thanks a lot for all the feedback. I figured out the best way to beat 25 jans at 7 min:

1st shipment 'irregulars'(colonial militia)
Age with agra fort
Make sepoy/chakrams but always have 300 food & gold available
Hide your army off to the side. When he attacks, call colonial militia, put 10 villagers in the tc and block his retreat with your hiding army sandwiching him between cm and your army. The agra fort + enhanced tc fire + colonial militia + your guys = he is completely wiped out!

I agree with Bengals' analysis about beating a pure jan spam. I also agree that using TC fire as a shield + militia/gurkas will beat a jan spam. But this wasn't a pure Jan spam; he had abus and cherokees. Sepoys are toast against abus and camels are toast against Jans, so it's hard to generalize about fighting a mixed Otto army. Still, gurkas are the way to go if you scout a forward barracks and no artillery foundry. Colonial militia is good if he commits 100% to a jan rush, but watch the timing. If he's just harassing, you'll waste the 21 minutemen (or whatever the Indians get ; ) ) and he might surprise you with a spahi FF to kill all your light inf.

One thing about this game: Why did your sepoys engage the jans in hand combat? They were outnumbered and were blocked while the 10 abus crushed them. You should have retreated immediately when you saw the abus to preserve your force, then have built units to address the new threats. It never makes sense to suicide your first army against a solid counter, ie, if you have 16 sepoys and you see 8-10 abus, RUN!

As Kiljardi and the others hinted at, it's something where you need to work more on how you put it together than any given bit of strategy, but it's good to know you're making progress. smile.gif
