Dj Kaiser vs Cerbykins

Having seen the micro guide now in use for reviews, he's sadly annoyingly probably right. tongue.gif
Though personally, I still hate xbows (for some reason they never felt right to me) and I would still be inclined to think Brit or Port FF instead. (Besteiros are a very notable exception biggrin.gif ) Not really a rational hate, I just never got on with them.
If xbows did worse than muskets vs muskets, it'd be time to be worried, since the bows would not be doing their jobs. More likely it's my use of them, but I would sooner have a troop I'm happy with than botch it with one I'm not. It was unrated regardless, and I had to give it a try at least once. wink.gif
That micro guide's pure evil though, I bet the guy in those videos could shoot both of us off without even thinking about it. tongue.gif
As the others say, there's lots of promise in muskets, this just wasn't one of those cases. tongue.gif
The MM use was just sloppy, but by this time the psych game had already kicked in and I figured I was going down - at the very least I wanted him out of there so I could have time to think.

Thanks for the review in any case, at least I know the other two replays are a better showing, even if I got a bit pushy after the treasures on Deccan. wink.gif

Well I wouldn't exactly say that Xbows do better than muskets vs the other Muskets but with proper micro and the fact that they are cheaper make it go pretty well.

Xbows got 20% ranged resistance, meaning the more attack that ashigaru has ranged the more gets repelled.

Xbows Also have more range but unfoutrunetly Ashigarus have more speed, but if you hit and run with a longer running time you just might make it that only 1-2 ashis hit you each time you fire back.

Muskets on the other hand have more Health but cost more in this aspect, a nice micro you could've used was put your musks in melee considering that ashigarus have a very weak melee compared to other musks. On the other hand the Ashigarus got boosted constantly so It would be pointless.

Perhaps my cdb rush that beat a colonel playing japs would work, I did cdb + 10 pikes + rest bows, he did ashi and nagi tongue.gif.

Didn't know about the melee at all. Thought it would be comparable to the stats of other muskets.
I do use the 3 hussars for another reason not obvious in the replay - it doesn't always hit paydirt (or villdirt biggrin.gif ) but it will scout for me and tell me what the other guy's going for. In a musket/hussar setup it can then tell you which building to throw your resources into, more hussars or more muskets. Or more bows, but I never could quite bring myself to do that. My loss I guess. tongue.gif

Still, the scouting is important, otherwise I could have totally the wrong troop setup and just get wiped. Not counting rotten OP ashigaru. wink.gif
No matter what the setup, early raiding is important to me if only to find out what I'm up against. Even the most FF or turtle civ fancies a rush every once in a while. There's probably better and safer ways to do it though. tongue.gif

Lol don't have to be that severe ya know, say ashi had 20 attack, xbows would repel 4 of that attack, now if ashi had 40 attack, then the xbows would repel 8 of that attack, but you still gain some more overall attack in the process. wink.gif

Shadox is right that well-microed xbows beat ashis, but one slip in attention and those ashis can wipe you out pretty fast. I was being a little facetious in my prior post about them, just because I think they get too many upgrades from too many sources, plus they are faster, making hit-n-run less effective. I have been fortunate enough with Germany to beat ashis from time to time with xbows, but all too often before the fight I will making a slight econ adjustment at the very moment the ashis come into view, which in turn throws off my micro and 3 or 4 bows get shot. 0wn3d.gif Still, it is good to know about the ranged resistance, even though the overall math is not pretty when comparing xbows to ashis (170 HP v. 100; at least 26 attack v. 20). Yes, ashis are significantly more expensive (especially in food), but he does have 10 free ones to ship in for the extra ummph. Not only that, I don't credit Japanese food complaints because they don't have to risk life and limb getting it from distant herds; they can lounge around picking berries 1 foot from refuge in the TC laugh.gif
