The Special Forces Combat Assault Rifle (SCAR) is a rifle made by Fabrique Nationale de Herstal for U.S Special Operations Command. Its comes in two variations. The SCAR-H (heavy) and the SCAR-L (light). The SCAR-L variation found in Bad Company 2 fires a 5.56x45mm NATO cartridge. Both of these weapons come in two flavours- a long barrel version and a close quarters variant.

Mechanics
The SCAR-L is one of the best weapons available exclusively to the Engineer class. Like both the 09A-91 and the UMP, its fire rate is 600 RPM and the close range damage is 20. The 09A-91 outclasses both the UMP and SCAR-L in long range damage, with the SCAR-L dealing just 12.5 compared to the 09A-91's 14.3. However, the SCAR-L wins on magazine size, holding 50% more rounds than the 09A-91.

It does suffer a fair amount of recoil, but at close to mid range it isn't much of a hindrance. Over long distances, tapping the trigger for two bullet bursts is effective, but swapping to your rocket launcher is even more effective! Try to use this weapon as it was designed, for close range domination.

Keep yourself near buildings, particularly the high traffic areas such as Conquest flags and M-COM stations to keep enemies in your desired kill zone. If and when you find yourself caught in long range encounters, strafing and tapping the trigger are your best bets for removing your enemy, although if you are able to get into cover to swap to your launcher, it is recommended. Magnum Ammo is great, although not necessary because the SCAR already has good damage output at close quarters. Body Armour will give you an edge for combat but Improved Demolitions is the most fitting, as the engineer is primarily designed to repair, operate and remove vehicles.

Targeting
The recoil is certainly apparent for the SCAR-L, however with the correct usage of firing techniques it isn't a problem; so remember to burst or tap over long distance and don't be afraid to hold down the trigger when things get up close and personal. The iron sights should prove to be sufficient for your needs, and they are not to difficult to use at range either, so the Red Dot Sight shouldn't be needed. The x4 scope is not recommended for the SCAR-L, as it is designed for close to mid range, which the x4 is not suited for.

Role
The SCAR-L is potentially one of the best SMGs in the game, and when fired correctly is capable of consistently downing two or more enemies when the opportunity presents itself. Like the UMP, it has a slightly higher damage rate than other SMGs, so if you know that the map you're on will regularly involve long ranges such as Atacama Desert or Panama Canal, consider using the SCAR-L in place of other SMGs, and for those situations that require something bigger, remember that your trusty launcher is only a button away.
