Ok, so lo and behold, I get matched with a Gnuggy one, and we do a Cybran mirror on Finn's...I felt for a while like I had the upper hand, but couldn't really get over that hump, then bam. All my e is gone and I lose. I've always said that Finn's is my worst map, so I need some advice/better build orders/whatever you think I could've done better/differently. Thankee kindly.

[EDIT] Forgot to mention that this on the new patch, 3217, so you'll probably want to update before watching it wink.gif

Hi Timmy, nice game.

It is pretty apparent that you and Gnug were using a similar build and balance between land, sea, econ, and almost no air. Your scores were extremely close, and that shows that you were evenly matched in base micro, econ investment, and unit allocation.

I can't think of many ways that Gnug's plan differed from your own... so there is little in the way of advice to give there.

I think it all came down to execution.

Gnug aggressively took both islands, while sacrificing the central chokepoint mass. Those islands were a huge boon to him, and a quick recon flight would show just how important the north island was to him (despite the lack of defending units or turrets). I feel you could have been a bit more aggresive on that end.. and when you recaptured the south island with your frigate there should have been a t1 engineer sent over to claim the spot.

You really got hit hard by losing a frigate right next to his naval yard to a few engineers. It would have been wise to keep a little more distance and slam the engineers. I feel that point alone would have won the game or put it in close contest... as his salem is what really brought you down.

I dislike that the salem was rocking your base for a few minutes with no attempts to stop the barrage. You had two subs in your SE naval yard not being used, and their could have either surfaced and shot up the north island, or attempted to dislodge the salem. Granted, he could beach the salem at the onset of torpedo attacks, but you could have a chance at putting him between a proverbial rock and a hard place.

I feel the use of your rockets could have been better capitalized. They wasted a good minute firing up a hill that was stopping their shots.. and when you sent 10 or so into his base along with a mantis company, they walked right into T2 PD fire. To make matters worse, they were firing at the mountain up to his extractor, negating all shots and effectiveness. After you noticed this, you seemed to use a move order further in the base to cure their targeting.

I would suggest trying to flank a bit with them instead of a direct assault, and manually targeting and ensuring they stay max range.

Your base structure could be a bit more efficient as far as using adjacency bonuses, and your square of power gens were extremely vulnerable to AoE attacks. Aeon bombers could drop 6 of your pgens in 2 bombs... ouch. Same goes with artillery later on or the salem getting a 4 for 1 aoe bonus.

This all sounds very critical, but it is all small things that I feel turned the tide far in Gnug's favor, despite your balanced builds against eachother. Given a second run-though... I feel you could have a solid win.

GG =)
