Lo and behold Ladies and Gentlemen, the two valiant commanders as they duel amid the frozen wastes of a forgotten world. Watch this glorious game degenerate into mindless spammage as the mighty flare surges on to victory. 11 minutes of sonic carnage in which these tiny bipedal robots swarm over my foe to feast on his radioactive metallic carcass. bowdown.gif to the greatness of The Flare![attachmentid=224844][attachmentid=224847]

Wow, that was funny. Your enemy was playing like a total noob. Early on (2 minutes into the game) he had a construction effiency of less than 40 %. He basicly screwed up his early game, and he screwed up A LOT.
Felt more like a show match to me tongue.gif
It was most funny when he decided to use his commi to fight of your onslaught, all the time being shot by your forward PD biggrin.gif

You're right, he wasn't the the most challenging opponent but I just beat another guy (Aeon) on Saltrock Colony using the same "strat". The constant stream of Flares keeps your opponent on the defensive (no matter how many he destroys), giving you the map and resources to spam even more flares which do pretty good damage with their sonic weapons that can also pass through more units/buildings. It's so funny, stupid and people don't expect it. tongue.gif

Yo i can imagine it to be effective, but to guarantuee a constant stream you need 4+ factories spamming them. I think on maps with more space between both player than on winter and salt (probably even finns) it could be increasingly difficult.

A good opponent will probably use his commi as a PD, since he needs only a single hit for each flare. Interesting nontheless !

EDIT: Man damn i need to check my posts. I constantly seem to miss words.

Well, after winning these two games with flares only I lost another two on Open Palms (UEF) and Sentry Point (Aeon). On OP I accidentally built a mass fab. instead of a pgen at the beginning of the game and it really slowed me down, although I'm not sure, even without that mistake, that I would have won. Stryker's hitpoints are just a little too much for those little bots to handle. As for Sentry's, around 4 auroras lined up can stop them almost completely with their range. I could've played smarter and waited a bit until the flares gather in a larger group before I send them but I don't think it would've made enough difference in the end. So it seams this can only work on really small maps and preferably against weaker opponents. Still, a better player than me would probably be able to execute "The Flare Rush ™" more efficiently, especially one that can micro well. But it's really fun watching swarms of them hunt down an ACU. happy.gif

What do you do if someone spams hunters? Hunters > Flares

Meh, I stopped trying this after loosing those 2 other matches but I think it's unlikely for Cybran players to spam hunters because they're too busy spamming mantii. tongue.gif Still, it probably wouldn't matter against an unprepared weaker opponent on a small map. By the time he switches from mantii to hunters it would probably be gg. Against an equal or better opponent on a not-so-small map you're screwed anyway. laugh.gif But if you're willing to try the flare rush with hunters or mms, I'd be curious to know the results.
