Supreme Commander

Epic Mercy defense on Bermuda

#1MessiahAngel  Aug 7 2007, 18:26 PM -
Those Mercy are just insane ! I've built up just to defend against them and couldn't go ahead in developpement without putting up a shield first... Wonder what it could have been on different map.
Watch out, long replay (1h09).
This could be used as a basis to start from to build up effective defense and get on a more offensive move after.

That hurt to watch. Canadian should have been able to win much earlier than he did, but his economy and unit management was utterly terrible. He had as much as 10x your mass income at times but wasted almost a third of it.

So was his Mercy management, come to that. He let the first two he built expire from lack of fuel.

I stopped watching at 12 min cause I knew how it would end. You were going all defense. You need to scout more one scout into his base would have told you he had no AA. GGs would have set his Mercy spam back. Dropping in Rhinos would have wtfpuwned him. There was a lot of things that you could have done to stop him. Get more scouts up. He was only attacking with T1 units 2 rhinos on each side would have been more then enough. you had 6 idle engis you need to use them all, your ACU was also idle. Try setting a couple inters on a larger patrol you would have seen him building up the Mercy's outside of your base and they wouldn't have been a prob

Thx for the advice thumb.gif
It was the first time that i was playing on this map and as i knew mercy would come sooner than later, i went on a defensive strat that cost me game eventually. I know i played too defensive and when i wanted to go ahead, i was fearing to get everything blasted with mercy strikes. I know i could have handled this in another way but i was not thinking about this at the moment.
Anyway, this was a good experience and now i know what to do vs mercy to defend and keep units on the move to attack and push...

i disagree w/ kvasir that you shouldn't go all defense in the first 15 min against aeon on this map. if you don't make the flak and shields, your acu will die in about the 10 min mark to mercies. messiah did fine up till then imo. his downfall started when the first few mercies started hitting and he forgot to make mass fabs w/ 1000+ power floating. obviously don't bunch up the fabs since that's a big bulls eye for mercy hits. if done correctly, you should be able to keep up at the least in terms of econ.

that's the easy part. by this point, the aeon should have map control and it's time to take it back w/ t2 tanks and missiles. i wouldn't even bother w/ mobile AA (besides base defense). force him to use up his mercies on your advancing tanks and keep pushing.

another low risk strat i've had success w/ is a foward firing base. you know - the usual t2 turrets and artillery under shields.

lol by the time you get t2 artillery you will already be dead because firstly cybran t2 artillery SUCKS and aeon t2 shields OWN but especially because artillery has a very bad cost/effiency ratio. They cost so much metal you will be covered beneath mercy piles before you have your first t2 arty rdy.

honestly i've done the foward firebase thing once against mercy using aeon. and only after i've softened him up w/ t2 tanks and forced him to turtle w/ t2 turrets. you're prolly right that it's not cost effective, but it's a viable option once you have a significant econ advantage. i usually go for t3 bots once i've crippled his econ. so what do you recommend against a mercy attack, ancient?
