Advanced Mine Tactics

High travel points

Always be sure to lay mines on the highly traveled locations of the map such as the gaps in hedgerows on angoville, the route between the two semois bridges that goes past the church and the central bridge on beaux. These points which are highly travelled are perfect mine positions as they will almost certainly hit something and these mines especially should be re-laid everytime you have the chance as they will pay off everytime and will either force your opponent to purchase mine-sweepers or travel a different path or constantly live in fear of what lies ahead.

Double mining for Vehicles

If you're mining to take out vehicles it's best to put two mines close together, as the vehicles runs over the first one it's momentum should carry it into the second one which if it is a light vehicles (such as a halftrack) should destroy it. it's also important to make sure you take out the engine with mines and two will double your chances. The mines should be placed very closely together in a line following the direction in which you expect the vehicle to travel so that you have the maximum chance of destorying it, although often two mines in close proximity will detonate each other when one is hit thereby taking out everything in the area.

Ambushes

Always try and keep some units around your mines but hidden, when your opponent hits the mine and is supressed you can rush in and finish the weakened squad before your opponent knows what's happening. Units can be put in buildings nearby to gain LoS over a larger area or behind hedges where the enemy may be lured into hitting the mine to chase the squad which will then come in to mop them up. This tip also applies to vehicles as mines will often damage or destroy their engines it is absolutely key to have a fast pursuit vehicle to come in and finish the vehicle off before it can limp away for repairs, upgunned Pumas and M10s serve this role especially well.

Luring and Driving

It's always a good idea to remember where your mines are and to try to lure or drive units into them, puma kiting you? Use the fear of sticky bombs to force them onto your mines and they'll be helpless. This also works for infantry, if your opponent is chasing your volks with his rifles run over your own mine and they'll follow you right onto it. This is a key tip in the use of mines and every player should develop a sense of how to encourage or force enemy units to hit their mines as they can be game-changing at the correct moment.

Channeling enemy forces

Always try and force your opponent to use the route you've mined, lay wire, sandbags or tank traps to force them into your minefield and take advantage of small gaps in these and other natural obstacles to leave your opponent no other route to move down.

Sandwiches

Different types of mines can be placed on top of each other, by this i mean riflemen, engineer and M8 mines can all be placed in the same location, this is called a 'mine sandwich'. The effect of one of these going off is like a goliath if not more powerful biggrin.gif . Thanks to gogy for information on this tip!

and my personal favourite mine tactic...

The common sense lure

Build a wall of sandbags in an otherwise coverless area then place your men slightly further away in different cover, when your opponent rushes out of his base the only sensible thing to do is to hide behind your abandoned sandbags at which point their men will run into the mines you've left behind them xD. Although this works for all cover there's generally too many places to mine them all, by building a wall of sandbags you give your opponent an incredibly obvious place to go (everyone knows it's better to be in cover). When the mines go off you can rush in and kill at close range with the green cover of the sandbags. This has the double effect of both almost certainly luring your opponent into the mines and making him afraid to use green cover anymore (which is an obvious bonus for you).

wow, nice tips there smile.gif

I think in an old TotW sepha wrote something about laying the mines in a specific way. I think it was so the 2 front mines was the first to explode.
Can someone clarify this ??

Indeed - the mines when you lay them come in a triangular formation and the explosive power is greater if the enemy unit hits the two mines as opposed to hitting the single one.

awesome tip! most of it is common sense that is forgotten in the heat of battle, when your busy countering stuff, so it never hurts to reinforce the thoughts

this is written from allied side, but axis can use mines too...

well ammu is always needed for better things too, but a mine or two can be especially good if you get tier3 same time as allies go the vehicle house. very often this will result in that damn annoying m8 chasing the puma... so just run away over your mine(s) and that helps a lot..

I wrote this to apply to both sides eyebrow.gif

The only thing in there that applied to allies only is the mine sandwich, the rest was for axis and allies.

Great tips - I never knew you were so wonderfully evil. Laying sandbags with the sole purpose of luring them in genuis. Losing or winning has no meaning now for me. I want to make my enemy fear the sandbag! bowdown.gif

Laying mines in general behindheavy cover (heystacks (ango, semois), walls etc is brilliant

I have never gone so far as to make sandbags in order to make a mine there htou, quite clever smile.gif

Laying mines on World items is anotherone, AT guns, Pshrecks you for some reason cant pick up atm. Mgs / Mortars etc

My favorite is mines at the spot off-map units come in. Runner up: M8 base rushing to lay a few presents at the doorstep of the HQ and tank depot.

You can also place a mine directly in the doorway of a house you expect to be occupied. With engi mines, you can lay them so they're guaranteed to go off. With M8 mines you can't place them close enough to guarantee detonation, but you can lay them so that they'll go off if the squad goes round the right way. Infantry squads tend to bunch up when they're entering a building, so you can do some massive damage.
