Yeah he wanted a very early win. He thinks shields are OP, but I think the thing that hurt him most was micro sloppyness. He is far better at me at macro, dont get me wrong, but I picked off a few more units than he did in almost every battle. If that hadnt happened, I wouldnt have gotten to shields because he invest more mass/energy into tanks, and earlier. UEF can do that because of their build cost decrease which lets them expand earlier and more often. I also got RS. Also, maybe mobile arty wouldve done the trick.
Its funny how this game was made for and by casual players, but the metagame, expecially how to effectively counter something, is so complex, because of the ways you can use something. For example, double barrels are already an effective but expensive research, but if you get them at the right moment and use something like cluster-move or attack move, they become even more devastating, to the point only experimentals and OC/nano can counter it..
