Spliced and ready
Prior to the Firestorm conflict, the Reaper’s existence was little more than a rumor, a staple of frontline gossip amongst GDI infantryman gossip. With little more than blurred recon photos to go on, most believed the Reaper was either a hoax or of some new Tiberium-spawned life forms. With the rise of CABAL, those suspicions would be proven terrifyingly wrong – the Reapers, revealed to be a part-mutant, part-all terrain walker equipped with dual cluster-missile cannons and an anti-personnel net launcher, was a key component of the deranged intelligence’s legions.

Nod’s early experiments with the semi-organic all terrain walker concept resulted in catastrophic mental and physical damage to the 'chosen' Mutants; most were reduced to a state of incoherent, screaming madness, while the few survivors were unable to operate their additional limbs with an form of accuracy. The biofeedback from the additional legs was either too complicated to understand, resulting in the candidates crashing into walls and through walls, at war their own four feet, or simply overwhelmed the cerebral cortex of the test subject, rendering them brain dead. All failed candidates were transferred to the cybernetics division for additional experimentation; In fact, it was these experiments on clinically dead mutants that first lead to the pervasive rumors of Nod scientists trying to raise the dead, repurposing the damaged mutant corpses into the Marked of Kane.

It was only after CABAL asserted itself completely over its charges, removing any semblance of free will from the host mutant, that the Reaper transformed from a disturbing experiment in cybernetics to a potential battlefield game changer. However, due to the heavy strain on CABAL’s resources required to field the unit in any significant numbers, the Reaper remained significantly underused in the post TW-II conflict. As both Nod and GDI struggled to contain CABAL’s armies, field reports suggest that the AI still had issues controlling large numbers of Reapers, with the cybernetic mutants colliding with each other, trampling other units and simply getting stuck in complicated terrain.

Once reborn as LEGION and merged with the Tacitus, the AI gained the insight necessary to resolve the issue, developing biomechanical feedback solution – derived from data regarding the bio-mechanized exoskeleton, notably the Annihilator Tripod, utilized by the Scrin in hostile environments – and all but eliminating the navigational issues faced by its predecessor. Combining this new technology with test subjects drawn from the seasoned ranks of the Marked of Kane cyborgs army, LEGION succeeded where his predecessor failed and cemented the Reaper’s role as a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield.

Cuts Like a Knife

Build more than a few
The Reaper’s primary armament is a the Multiple Objective Laser System, or MOLS, a focused laser array linked directly to the unit’s cybernetically enhanced cerebral cortex, allowing near the instantaneous acquisition – and subsequently, destruction – of multiple targets, even on a crowded battlefield. This system has proved especially effective against larger GDI combat vehicles, with the Reaper’s ability to target multiple weak spots simultaneously allowing the unit to carve apart even the hardiest mammoth tank in a matter of seconds.

Regeneration

Reapers continually monitor their physical status via a range of nano-sensors implanted directly into the nervous system. This allows for the immediate analysis and treatment of any battlefield injury, with the actual treatment taking place at the molecular level, sealing damaged flesh and rerouting damaged cybernetic implants until they can be restored to working order. This has lead to numerous stories of damaged Reapers “rising from the dead” in full working order, often to the detriment of those careless enough to be around during the restoration process.
