Scheldt Guide

By c0mpl3x1ty - 2nd April 2011 - 01:50 AM

The Scheldt is a 350 km long river in northern France, western Belgium and the southwestern part of the Netherlands. Its name is derived from an adjective corresponding to Old English sceald shallow, Modern English shoal, Low German schol, Frisian skol, and Swedish skäll thin. (wikipedia)

It is also the most high-tier competitive map in all of Company of Heroes play. Only the best and the brightest dare brave its treacherous waters and thin islands. "High-tier?" I hear you saying, "if that's true why don't the experts ever post replays playing on that map?" That's because not even the pro-est of pros dare play on that deadly oasis of a map. It is at a higher-tier of analysis than any map in 2v2 or 1v1 because there are so many factors.

Factors like teamwork, map control, tactical awareness, micro, how many artillery shells you can drop on the middle island, who can strafe the soonest, who decided to tick roos on the map, whether the dumb host decided to tick high resources or not, if 3 stuka barrages manage to kill that singular vet 3 sniper guarding the middle island, if the PE player remembered to send 3 luftwaffe squads to the middle in the first three minutes... The list goes on and on!

How to Play as Americans with Noobs

As I think I explained, this is an extremely complicated map with even more complicated strategies. IF YOU’RE ANOOB. I’ll say this one more time, if you’re a casual, you might as well give up playing Scheldt right now.
AS AMERICANS, you have one task and one task only, take and hold the center island with the fuel and munitions. To do this, you upgrade your very first engineer with a flamer. If you can somehow convince your teammates to stop staring into space or drooling incoherently (or both) you tell him to do the same and rush the middle island. Your second engineer should be building a Weapons support center and building snipers as soon as possible. Your doctrine is definitely infantry so just pick fast deployment and get him out there faster. The sooner he’s out there, the sooner he can be vet 3 and pwn face and start sighting for your howi.

Now this next step is really easy. Just get two more vet 3 snipers, a vet 2 flamer (for damage avoid) and then call in rangers every chance you get. Just keep calling them in. Don’t stop. If you stop calling in rangers, you’re probably a noob. Snipers pick off infantry, and if you have enough of them, your rangers should be killing everything. Really if you’re having problems with getting three vet 3 snipers, then you’re probably just a massive noob who doesn’t understand the deep moral and physiological conditions of fighting a battle in the Scheldt and should just go off and cry playing your noob maps like Langres and Angoville, WHICH ARE FOR NOOBS.

Playing Scheldt as Wehrmacht

Now I don’t mean to toot my own horn, but when I played wehrmacht, I never lost a game on the Scheldt. MY NOOB TEAMMATES ALWAYS LOST THE GAME FOR ME. I hate playing with noobs I’m just trying to win, and then they’re like “lol where are the panthers” and I’m like “GET THEM YOURSELF NOOB I’M GOING STUKAS” and then they go cry in the corner because they just don’t understand Scheldt like I do.

The plan is this, get out a motorcycle, 3 pios, get support vehicle vet and kill his snipers. If you somehow can’t kill his snipers, that’s ok. If you get support vehicle vet, it should carry over for when you get fast stukas and just keep bombing the middle island until you kill one. You will eventually, considering statistically Scheldt games (as long as they’re high resources + annihilate) take about an hour to 5. From there, you consider the cooldown of stuka barrages so you’ll get about… (my math is a little rough) about 53 stuka barrages off before the end of the game, on average. You can also use stukas to kill tanks, something I highly recommend as your primary AT.

Playing Scheldt as Panzer Elite

Ok, with your first CP, build a ton of Luftwaffe squads. Then, LEAVE THE GAME YOU MASSIVE NOOB NO ONE LIKES THE ONE GUY PLAYING PE ON SCHELDT.
